I bought this 2003 O1970A1CS second hand in 2013.

It looked like this except for the odd duck bill grip safety which I tried for a short while (and grip screws)

I shot it a lot, and it’s a good shooter, 25 meters

It seems it was modified by the previous owner.

The slide has a high degree of polishing and is very shiny. Also the markings were polished flat before blueing. I added old grips to add to the visual confusion.

The sights are not the modern high profile type, but low profile ones

However they are wider than the typical GI style, both the front sight and the rear notch. I haven’t seen those sights on any other Colt. Possibly the original high profile sights modified / filed down.

Barrel seems like a regular Colt

With a weird looking X underneath

Anyway it’s a different repro, more resembling an original MK IV series’ 70, and it grew on me over the years

It now has company with the new to me 1977 large roll mark

Definitely an improvement by getting rid of the Allen head grip screws and "mud-flap" grip safety.

The sights look like standard Colt sights from the 70s, to me.

Very nice pistol. There is Colt, and then there are the wanna be's.

The "modular" design of the Mark IV makes modification-and restoration-easy. I put a flat mainspring housing on mine, feels better. I had a gunsmith put higher fixed sights on my original large letter slide-I was shooting IPSC then. Found a small letter slide, it needed a little valve grinding compound to make it fit. I have a couple of spare collet bushings.

CLASSIC12 ,
Congratulations on finding one of those in Sweden

You must keep your eyes on all the various For Sale venues over there as you have come upon what I would normally think as unusual finds in Europe

I like the grip change and am glad that you replaced the modern style screws and grip safety with more traditional choices

I had not realized it was so long ago that the Model 70 was re-introduced. Time Flies

Looking back at my notes, I see they were announced in January of 2002 at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

I like serial numbers. So I had requested the 70th gun of the new series 70s

I received serial # 71B0070 about 5 weeks later in February of 2002 and added it to my 1911 collection.

It still remains unfired

For some strange reason, my 1911s that I fire the most are either Commander length or Long Slides.
