Combat Grips

An unusual set of K square Combats. I got 'em this way, and have no idea of their history.

I find the Altamont Grips fit my hand the best. (The ones that come on Lady Smith revolvers)

The one on the right is the K frame round butt. The one on the left is the J frame round butt.

Hoot,
Those K square grips are definately unique. The more I look at them the more I like them. How do they fit the hand? Someone put a lot of effort into handcrafting them in that style.I doubt that they are factory made but that's just my guess. Do you know any history behind them?

Those squares are dandy. The grain sure looks like factory wood to me. The lower two finger grooves appear to match the original factory profile as well. I am thinking that someone has reworked the upper finger groove by removing about as much wood a possible before running out of wood and getting into the frame. The heel also seems to have been slightly rounded. At any rate, I do like them. I bet they would feel good in my stubby paws.

Are they for sale?

If not, are you sure you wouldn't want to swap them for an original set that has not been butchered around on?

Altamont grips from Kelly's. They have a nice palm swell and fill your hand for great control and perceived less recoil. This is not a Mod 66, but a 19-4 with Metaloy finish.

Don't wanna hijack this thread, so;
K Square combat grips - modified

I'm not selling right now, but I would use these in part for a trade on a pair of N Square combats, if anyone is interested. rfo1, Cope, you guys have email coming.

We've been working on some new stuff here's a preview of our Retro-Combat with Tung oil finish.

We hope to have the website updated by the end of month. We have the combat in a round butt and a banana along with some other grips.
Niiiice!

Kim, nice to see you adding more styles. I gotta say that your original combats (both round and square butt) are made as if my hand had been your mold.

Everyone rants and raves about the S&W combats from the mid 80s and such. I, like Sportsterguy, find them to be extremely uncomfortable and unnatural in the hand.

While this is not a K frame, it illustrates the point better than anything because it is a very hard kicking gun. When I got this Model 29, it came with factory combats:

It beat the crap out of my hand when shooting magnums through it. Even shooting specials, it was a chore to aim since the grip's pronounced grooves forced my hand to ride lower than I like.

Then I replaced the factory wood with this beauties from Kim and all my problems were solved. I can go through 25 to 30 full house 44 magnums before I gotta call it quits. This is a 3" pistol, mind you.

As long as Kim Ahrends makes grips for S&Ws, I need not shop anywhere else.

I'm with Wyatt on this on. Why pay the big bucks (180.00 on e-bay) for a cool set of S&W combats when you can have a set of Ahrends for 60.00 that won't eat your hands up. Don't get me wrong here. I think the Smiths are beautiful. I also think the Ahrends are beautiful and in my case are way better feeling allowing me to shoot my 3" N frame .41 and .44 mags way more accurately due to them not causing pain and drawing blood.
