"At least for some, the better a shooter you become, the less the equipment matters. Don Nygord set a free pistol range record (558) at MIT in 1980 that still stands. He shot it with a long barrel Model 41 when his Hammerli 152 electronic trigger died."

That is a great statement and I have another example of it. Back in the early 90's, at the Masters International Shooting Championship (either the 3rd or 4th year I can't recall for sure), Ken Tapp came in several days early to practice, and during practice his tricked out old High Standard Citation broke. He went to town, bought a Browning Buckmark, and that week he won the Precision competition with it.

Sometimes its the shooter and not the gun but I suspect the M41 has won many contests over the years as well as the M46.

The two most accurate .22's I have personally shot have been my 1979 model 41 and a friends Hi Standard. I went back and forth for weeks back in 1979 as to which model I should buy. Since I don't care for the bottom mounted magazine release and the slide release on the right side of the Hi Standard, the M41 is what I bought. For 38 years I shot it with its original 5.5" bull bbl but bought a 5" sporter barrel for it a few years ago and much prefer it over the 1/2 lb. heavier Bull bbl.

I'm one that likes the M41 and M46 equally. Don't let anyone say that one shoots any more accurate than the other. I had forsaken all my M41s years ago, in lieu of M46s.

Of the 4x M46s I have I shoot only 1 M46 and only then with a 2nd barrel set up ... the long barrel, that is drilled and tapped with a scope and the factory, triple tier weight set. This saves the original 5" barrel from being scratched, bumped or damaged.

That one is effortless to just keep shooting out the center X.

That said, I've always had a soft spot for the higher end High Standards. Just something about them, right out of the box, that makes you love them. User friendly, accurate and fire just about any .22LR brand / type equally well (Of course I use .22 LR match ammo when it counts).

The most accurate .22LRs I have are my 3 x HS / Giles ( Giles.45 Shop, Odessa FL) and a pre-war Colt Match Target Bullseye as well as a 2nd model Colt Match Target, the latter being a "very well used" pistol but no loss of accuracy nor any function issues. And, that M46 with the weighted & scoped barrel.

As long as my 41 is pointed at the X ring when I pull the trigger that's where the bullet goes, of course keeping the gun pointed at the x ring is an issue:).

Lately with a Cataract forming in my right eye and starting to lose my sight I have had to switch over to my M46 and start learning how to shoot with my left eye. I currently can not use my m41 with my right eye at all as everything is becoming a scratchy Blur vision wise. They figure in a coupla months they can repair this which will make me Happy. My M41 is way out of proper sight range so I have just parked it for now. Its due for a tuneup anyways.
