Two Dutch guys explain why they like the Fallkniven line and show some of their knives of that brand.

The video is in English, which both speak very well.

I think this will prove very informative for those here who've not seen the knives. They do a bit of woodsplitting, and offer good general comment, including distinguishing between similar models.

The basic F-1 shown is the issued pilot survival knife of the Royal Swedish Air Force, and the brand has received the endorsement of the monarch, who uses Fallkniven knives for such things as moose hunting and salmon fishing. The coat of arms of the King of Sweden appears on the boxes, meaning that they have the Royal Warrant, acknowledging that they supply His Majesty's knife needs, at least for the types he wants of that nature. (I suspect that the King may also have a Swiss Army knife in his pocket.)

If you like what you see, get over to the Fallkniven site. www.fallkniven.com Work all the buttons and see this remarkable line of knives. Prices are listed in Swedish kroner, but US dealers Online will often sell a S- 1 for maybe $150 and the larger A-1 for maybe $200 or less. The F-1 is less than S-1, and I think I've seen them for about $100-125.

I plug them here constantly when members ask about knives, but seeing them visually may tell you more than my posts.

Note that one guy here explains that the checkered Thermorun handles perform well without slipping in very cold weather. I thought of that because we're due some low temperatures this weekend.

If you like Fallkniven knives but find them to be a little expensive look at the line of knives by Helle, out of Norway. They are excellent quality knives for the price. I've purchased the kits and made a few for family members.

Is this an attempt to spell the name like it sounds, which the Dutch guys in the video muffed?

It should be pronounced as "FELL-ka-neeven." Means "folding knives" in Swedish, but the firm makes more sheath knives.

I asked founder Peter Hjortberger about the name. Almost none of the survival "experts" reviewing knives on YouTube can pronounce it right.

I've been a fan of Fallkniven for decades. Recently picked up this Volcano. It's a beaut.

Not at all. Just a simple error in spelling. I was in a bit of hurry when I posted.

I thought some might like to see one of the leather handled Northern Lights Fallkniven knives. This is the one that equates to the S-1 in the normal models with Thermorun handles.

Here's the scoop.

Volcano Knife. Model FNV1. 12" overall. 6 3/4" convex ground laminated CoS stainless trailing point blade. Brown cocobolo handle with stainless guard and pommel. Inlay shield. Lanyard hole. Black leather belt sheath.

Just a safe queen for me. I'm a sucker for convex grinds.
