I was reviewing these two models on the S/W website as well as reading several online reviews.

I see the 627 has an 8 round capacity versus the 686SSR's 6.

The 686SSR is not built in the Pro Shop yet is built to an "elevated standard" than normal production line guns.

The 627 is built in the Pro Shop.

Given the two are very close in price,is their much to be gained by choosing one over the other?

Are they substantially better than a standard 686 or 686 Plus?

Given that everything I see says "Out of Stock" one wonders how easily it will be to obtain either.

Any thoughts?

Not all 627s are built in the pro shop.

Are you aware the 686 is an L frame vs N frame?

What is your intended purpose? The 686SSR is built for IDPA/SSR, thus the name.
The 627 is awkward in IDPA due to the 6-shot IDPA restriction and ESR division for clip guns. It is well suited to other types of shooting.
