My beloved 66-2 has a problem. Last night I did some dry-fire w/ the using snap caps, etc. All went fine as normal. Then things stopped being normal. Cocked the revolver in SA. Pulled the trigger and hammer came down only 1/2 way.

This afternoon I removed the side plate to see exactly what the problem with my revolver was. Found that the pin which holds the spring in the slide has broken. This is a first for me. Cannot tell if it is welded to the frame or screwed into the frame. Broke off clean with the frame. No stub to try to grab and unscrew, etc.

Need to know, how does one go about fixing this issue? Is this something that I should return to S&W for repair? Is this even fixable?

Will appreciate any information that members of our board might want to offer. Sincerely. bruce.

Wow! It has been a long time since I saw that particular problem (I quit being a LE Armorer 3 decades ago.). If I remember correctly, that pin is pressed in place. If it were me repairing it, I will drill a blind hole in the same spot and then press/drive a very slightly over size pine in place. Use one longer than the final length so you can trim and dress the end.

Years ago, I could have done this all freehand. Now, a good drill press or milling machine would be a big asset. (I have neither, so it would be done freehand).
