It's my own dang fault!

Bought a 19-3 from a pawn shop. All was fine. Shot the unmerciful hound out of the revolver. Probably had been shot a time or to over the preceding years by various policemen. Came up with a not uncommon problem ... push off! Treated the problem w/ a replacement hammer/trigger (used). That treatment has now failed. What to do? What to do?

Hoping against hope, I cleaned and wiped and otherwise made sure the problem was not something merely resulting from grime, etc. No soap. Nope. The problem was more than mere poor housekeeping.

Have concluded that I need to do several things. First, I need to repeat the prior treatment. Second, noted that the spring that pushed the slide forward is not sufficiently strong enought for its job. Have to push the trigger a slight bit to get it to return forward for either SA or DA, currently only DA b/c, well, it looks like its seen better days.

Now, before I dip my fingers in S&W Love Potion No. 9 (AKA Hoppes No. 9), and start removing screws, etc., I think it wise to consult with the S&W Brain Trust here at S-W-Smithing. What think you? Feel free to offer any free advice! Don't hold back! Can't do any worse than I've already done!

Drinking to much coffee on this the second day of 2025 I await your suggestions. Sincerely. bruce.

Could you post a video of exactly what happens when it cycles?
Sideplate off?
Put a private YouTube vid set to private non public and post here.
I’m wanting to learn as much as I can.
Maybe a new hammer and trigger together would fix it?
I’ve had good luck with everything I’ve bought from eBay thus far.

Since you've already removed the side plate to replace hammer and trigger, one more time ought not matter.

At the very least, sounds like you need a new trigger rebound spring. IIRC factory is 18 lbs, you can likely use 15 lb with a full strength mainspring and get positive reset.

BTW - what did Jimmy do and how did it get right? Post #3? ;)

Oh my goodness!!! Between strumming his six-string, sipping booze from his blender nursing his heel that he cut on a pop top, Jimmy managed to figure out the answer to his problem at a little place called Margaritaville! Note the progression ... from "nobody's fault ... somebody's fault ... my own dxx fault!" Lots of folks never make it that far! Sincerely. bruce.
