I need some 32-20 5 screw advice

… I was shooting into the sun, and the glare bouncing off of the top of the rear groove and front sight, it was hard to get a good sight picture. Okaaa!!...

Blackening the sights will help. Target shooters use soot, but flat spray paint, magic marker or similar have all been used.

That's some good shootin'
I usually load Unique. 4.3 grs with a 118 Bear Creek Supply bullet, safe for all guns. I think I chrono'd it once at 875fps from 4 inch S&W HE.
I'm not metering my powder. I use the Lee dippers. Unique and Herco don't meter well.
But I just bought 4 lbs of Herco from a LGS with a 2017 date code.
It's a fluffier powder. I might even like it better than Unique.

Jack, myself as well. Burns a lot cleaner up near maximum charges.
I bought a # of BE-86 at the gun show this morning. Looking at the granules, it should meter like water. Looking forward to giving it a try in the 5 screw. Next trip out to the range, I'll chrony some loads.
Jack

Went back to the range Sunday afternoon the 2nd, with the chrono. Brought some loads with 5.1 grains of CFE-P, 100 grain T&B bullets.
FPS:
Hi = 1003
Lo = 896
Ave = 946
ES = 107
SD = 30

4.8 grains BE- 86 100 grain rnfp T&B bullets.
FPS:
Hi = 940
Lo = 874
Ave = 903
ES = 66
SD = 22
Groups? Nothing to write home about. 15 yards, minute of baseball. I replaced the center pin with a new one. Definately tightend cylinder play out caused by just that. Still waiting for the proper cylinder stop to show up somewhere. There is a source seller on the net that has it, but I absolutely will not be knowingly scalped. Price? 48.00 American. So, still working toward that holy grail of a good grouping load. I don't even know if these revolvers are capable of golf ball size groups a 15 yards. A good rear sight would go a long way in improving the revolver accuracy.

Try some 115-120gr .314 bullets with your HP38 3.5-4.0grs. I have a 1905 1st change target that may have been unfired when i got it. It shoots that load into a golf ball at 25yds from the bench. Most of my 32-20s will do that a 15 yard. However some of the more worn ones wont. I can get the more shot out one to shoot with 100gr XTP’s. I know it accelerates wear but so what it wasn’t hitting the target in the first place.

About 15 miles from me is Badman bullets. They sell 115 grain rnfp cast. This coming Monday, I'm going to buy a sample bag to try out.
EDIT: I just received a message from Badman bullets. They don't have any in stock, and aren't going to make any more for a couple months. Looks like I'll be waiting for a while.

I've used the first two but the third is a newcomer to me...HP-38 always metered well for me...If I was a betting man, I would bet on HP-38 and the 100 grain projectile for tightest group...Let us know...:cool:...Ben

I bet he is right. I use W231 (same stuff as HP-38) and a 100 grain powder coated SWC from Jerry's up the street in my three 32 WCF revolvers. All of mine like the 100 grain bullet better than lighter ones or heavier ones.
