Hello guys I am looking to improve my 9mm Pro for competition which is mostly IDPA in my area. I have shot in several matches so far with my 9mm Pro and I absolutely love the gun but I know there must be some things that can be done to improve the gun for this style of shooting.

I know hand loading your own ammo is a big advantage as well so I just bought a new Dillon 550B and plan to start loading some this week.

What else would you other competition shooters recommend? Perhaps a recoil reduction system for faster follow up shots?

Thanks in advance.

I shoot a 9L in USPSA production division. The only mods I've made to it were a Dawson fiber optic front sight, blacked out the white dots on the rear sight with a permanent marker and installed an APEX competition trigger kit, with RAM.

The sight and trigger kit helped me be more accurate with it at speed. Recoil reduction came from shooting 147 gr. bullets at 132 power factor.

Some people have put grip tape on or stippled the grip with a soldering iron but I've found the factory grip adequate.

Hope this helps.

How does loading your own ammo provide a competitive advantage, other than lower cost?

Prohibited by IDPA rules.

Even stippling the wrong part of the grip is illegal in SSP.
Best read the IDPA Division rules carefully before making ANY external changes.

I shoot a bone stock Pro 9 in IDPA/SSP and USPSA/Production

Install the Apex Competition Kit for a 2.5# Trigger. Makes for much easier long shots and the kit hastens the reset. I went with the Savigny sights as well.

Take Care

Your gun has good sights, the trigger is good and will be better when you have a couple of thousand rounds down the tube.

If you want to get better spend some money with a good instructor. It will make leaps and bounds difference in your scores...

Save your money on gadgets and buy more ammo or components and practice , practice and more practice with the eye of a skilled instructor/mentor.

OKFCO5 is also dead on with reading the rules of each game before doing anything to your gun. All of mine are stock....

PS. Every broken gun I have seen at a USPSA/IDPA matches are one that have been modified...just MY observation....

But not every broken part is modified. My trigger bar broke at USPSA Nationals this year. Gun had less than 12,000 rounds fired.

You are quite correct in that....however I rarely see a stock gun of any manufacturer fail at a USPSA/IDPA match...happens...just not often.
