I just completed a project 1911...came by a one-of-a-kind slide and as I have several Brownells 1911 frames for projects I dedicated one for this. The fellow who did the slide said it was difficult to do a pattern that runs over three sides rather than a separate scene for both sides and the top. It's laser engraved I'm sure but the work just spoke to me.
It wasn't difficult to find gold plated parts...but fitting the thumb and grip safeties was a major pain...lots of filing time spent. In the end it all went together...the only thing I'm unhappy with the the trigger pull...crisp and a clean break...but over 9.5lbs! That can be tended to but as I probably will never shoot it I may just leave it.
The fellow who provided the slide thinks I should get the frame engraved as well but I think that's going a bridge too far. Once it was put together I thought "What have I done?" as it looks something like what would come from America Remembers or similar. But...it is what it is.
Building the Long Slide recently taught me a lot about building a 1911...I put some of that to use here but learned even more along the way.
