Recently, last 3 days, my high speed cable computer will access the first page of the forum, but will not let me access any other of the forum components, ie, lounge; guns for sale; or any of the sub-forums. The screen comes up "Push Refresh Button" etc. I have followed each instruction to the letter but can not access the forum. I am writing this from my old dialup computer, which seems to work OK. I am not a computer wizzz and am considering taking out this offending @#$#$% with the appropriate Louiville Slugger!!! HELP! Any suggestions would be appreciated. The Wild Turkey is half gone!!

Without fully understanding your issue, one question is what browser are you using?
If using IE, try FireFox and see if the problem exists with that browser.

I have had a couple people mention that a Windows patch was downloaded within the last day or so and currently encountering system and/or Internet issues.

Some issues that existed with IE are not present with FireFox.

Another question is if this only happens with this Forum? What about some completely other gun forum (yeah, like why would anyone want to use any other). :)

Not a computer whiz either but I can offer a couple suggestions.

a) delete your browsing history.

If that doesn't fix it, then...

b) delete the forum cookie.

To delete history, go to 'Safety' and 'delete browsing history'. This is for Internet Explorer 8. If you are using IE 7 then you can delete browsing history by clicking on the 'Tools' menu. In either case, close IE and restart after you have deleted the files.

To delete the forum cookie, you need to be a little careful so you do NOT delete all of your cookies. Go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Settings, then View Files. This will show all of your cookies. Find the forum cookie in the lefthand column (it will look like "cookie:[email protected]") then highlight it [left click on it] and press the delete key. finally, close all the various windows and close Internet Explorer and then restart it. Navigate to the forum. You will have to log back in and a new cookie will be created to preserve your visit info for future visits.

Give this a whirl and report back, please.

I feel the pain, I got a Trojan virus about a month ago, and just today did I get everything working correctly, am no wizard either, but I was about ready to go shoot the damn PC

1. Do you have a hardware firewall/router?
2. Do you have the Windows or another software firewall running?
3. If the answers to 1 and 2 are "yes", turn off the software firewall. If you can access what you want to, you're done. The software firewall isn't necessary if you already have a hardware firewall. They either ask the user a lot of questions they don't know the answers to or block things without asking.

Thanks guys, at least I have a start. I kept thinking it was the S&W website but I don't think thats the case. Will try these remedies and see what happens. Now the fun begins again. THANKS ALL!!!

You might also check your security settings. In "Tools" then "Internet Options" then "Security". Try setting all of them to default. I also would delete all browsing "History" as well as all cookies and temporary internet files. Defragment and restart. You can also go to "Programs" from the start menu, then to "Accessories" then "System Tools" then "Disk Cleanup". Good luck!

It was the firewalls, they are timed and when the time runs out after they are disabled it blocks the forum website. Now to see how to fix it so the firewalls allow me access on demand??? Thanks for the help, at least I know what the problem is.

Are you talking about software firewalls? If so, how many and what brand(s)?

The Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security firewall will typically ask you for how long you want to turn it off. Just say "permanently". Others work in a similar fashion.

You can turn off the Windows firewall by going into Control Panel and Security and turning off the firewall there. It'll complain, but if it bothers you that much, there are ways to turn the Security Center alerts off.

It's not really a good idea to have more than one firewall turned on at a time.

I've had the same problem recently, but only on my home computer, not at work.

There's a link to this forum in a thread on rimfirecentral; if I follow that link, I usually can operate normally in this forum from my home Mac, but not always.

If I google the forum from home and follow that link, I have the same problem of accessing the first page, and the forum recognizes me, but just like if I follow my bookmark, I get a "can not find server with 'a' " message when trying to access another page.

Sooner or later I'll sit down and figure it out. Or, goof off at work outside of my breaks. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.
