Computer restore point question

Windows XP, Firefox browser.

After the last FF update to 15.0.1 when I shut down the computer I get a D3D9 Window Not responding and the system will not shut down until I close this "Window error" Then of course there is the send or not send to MicroSoft

I looked it up and there is some fix with messing withe registry which I do not care to get involved with.

So if I restore my system to before the update will it also go back to the old version of FireFox (V 15.0)???

I am thinking the new FF version is casing the problem.

Yes....it will restore back to the last normal start up. You will loose the FF update.

If you find that your Restore is unsuccessful...you get the message:
"Windows was unable to restore"

Try doing it again in Safe Mode. When you reboot the computer hit the F8 key as soon as the system enters boot-up to get to the page that allows you to select Safe Mode. Then select the Restore function as before. Doing Restore in Safe Mode will disable any anti-virus or firewall programs that maybe preventing a successful restore.

Yes, it is set to auto update so I have all the latest MS junk. I am only guessing that the FF update caused this problem. I have not done the restore yet, tomorrow and we will see.

FWIW - You really need to run Update manually so you can select "Custom." Unfortunately, "Express" (automatic) update ONLY updates Critical Microsoft Updates.

I guess I mis typed(spoke) I have had it set to auto notify since Al Gore invented the internet I can pick and choce what to download, Bill Gates an't gonna tell me what to do

Anyway, I did do a manual check for updates and there are none except Beta stuff.

I restored to a few days ago to Fire Fox 15.0 and the problem is gone. Why, I can't say.

FWIW - I found that removing my tin foil hat while FF updates are loading prevents this type of failure for me. You do what's best for you.

Well, now I have more probems my spel ceck is not workiin and I lost my goggle search

I un-restored my restore so my spell check works again and Google is back.

So the moral of this story is do not try this at home folks.

One of my ongoing nagging issues with any MS-PC I've had is that even though I might think I own it and can direct it to do what I want it to do when I want it to do it, the anti-virus programs are really in charge! It's like having a Cat, you don't really own them, they own you. They will only let you do what they're darned good and ready to let you do.

Miscellaneous errors like that sounds like the result of a virus.
