It happened at a southern Oregon Walmart, the following is from the Medford Police:
Concealed Handgun License Holder Assaulted and Robbed of his Handgun.

A 25 year old male entered the South Walmart last night while lawfully carrying his Springfield XD 40 caliber handgun, in a holster, in the back of his waistband. He walked into the bathroom where he was followed by the suspect.

The suspect tried to grab the victim's handgun, but was not successful. The suspect then punched the victim, knocking him to the ground, and forcefully took the handgun. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and ordered him out of the restroom.

The suspect is seen on video running out the emergency exit where he meets up with the second suspect, before fleeing in a dark colored sedan (no further description).
I'll spare you the photos of the suspects. This makes me think about using a stall for #1 in public restrooms, location of weapon, and of course concealed means concealed. Nobody should know. Then there is situational awareness, training, etc.

This guy learned the hard way.

Kind of surprised he didn't fight back in the beginning, when someone is trying to take your gun, your in a fight for your life.

Guy was kinda dumb for carrying out in the open though.

Believe it or not there are people who can distinguish a concealed handgun...not in all cases, but with regularity. The shame is that the carrier doesn't seem to have used situational awareness OR had any CQB or retention training.

Uh. What makes you think he didnt? And he was carrying confused. Im confused as to what you read.

One of my rules is use the bathroom before leaving the house. Most situations can be avoided with a little fore thought.

That is a particularly vulnerable location calling for heightened awareness. You will either be in a confined space or have your back to people approaching you. Possibly partially disrobed. Certainly discommoded (pardon the pun).

Gentlemen, we should probably take a page from the ladies' book and start visiting the facility in pairs so one can watch the other's back.

Then there's the whole issue of leaving firearms in the stall...

He may have been a concealed carry licensee, but he was certainly not carrying it concealed. Small of the back carry without a covering garment is like begging to be disarmed.

The XD 40 was "partially concealed" by the victim's shirt. Based on context, he was NOT open-carrying.

Carry position is personal preference. My preference is appendix carry, this incident is one reason why.

Situational awareness is of utmost importance, especially if it's in a difficult to defend as on you backside hip. You must be aware of who is around you and where they are. Confidently look anyone near you square in the face, as if you know who they are and where they are. Don't look threateningly, but confidently, like you know how to handle yourself and you're not afraid.

Using the restroom before you go out helps. But what if you're out all day? Using a stall helps as does locking the door in smaller restrooms. If using a stall think about going #1 standing to the side if possible, as most stall door locks are flimsy or only held in particle board, which breaks easily.

Defensive tactics are a skill that must be practiced with regularity, with emphasis on weapon retention. Just like shooting, if it's not practiced on a regular basis, it does you no good.
