Concealed Carry, 4 inch. K Frame?

For a short time I did with a Model 67 (no dash). Switched to my 3" Model 13-3 shortly after. Not going back.

I never conceal carried a 4" revolver of any frame size - too cumbersome IMHO. My 3" M65 is about the largest I go as far as barrel length is concerned for CCW. BTW, my 3" M65 has become my "woods carry gun" of choice and it gets loaded with Buffalo Bore "Heavy" 180 grain .357 Magnum LSWC's. Not something I'd care to shoot out of it on a regular basis but is one potent little package should I run into a Bear or other creature that is hungry or protecting its offspring. I keep magnum loads (especially Buffalo Bore) to a minimum out of K frames.

I would guess an IWB holster would be better to conceal a 4” K frame, unless you’re wearing a long cover garment all the time. The grip frame with larger stocks would be difficult to hide.

That's the issue. It can be mitigated with proper grips. I've got wood Spegel grips on three 4" SB K frames (bought before he got popular, I ain't rich!) and the rubber ones he designed on my 3" SB M10-7, and they conceal about as well as my Walther PPS in an IWB holster.

I don't but there's no reason I wouldn't if I wanted to. I have both a pancake holster and an IWB soft leather in case the need arises.

A four inch not in IWB but OWB holster works.

I carried a 2 1/2 inch Model 19 OWB.

1911s tend to be easier to carry as they are flat.
I carry a 4" K- and L-frame IWB very often. In fact, I'll go further and say that a 5" Model 986 (L-frame) is very comfortable to carry IWB. I carry at the 3 o'clock position and the IWB holster I carry in is designed for the N-frame.

It works for me.

Not hard at all.

Just need proper leather.

I prefer a Milt Sparks Summer Special. Heck I have been known to Concealed carry a 4" N Frame .44 Magnum, so a K Frame is no big deal:

Here is a pic of me running an El Presidente drill at my friend Ken Hackathorn's range in Salmon Idaho.

People often carry big guns but never really practice shooting them fast. As in shooting them to get fast and accurate hits. Well if you want to not be a big old pile of greasy bear poop...

Long time ago, a NYC Transit cop started a company called Stein. He specialized in thin leather IWB rigs for behind-the hip carry, some with belt cutouts on the back if you wanted to go OWB. They fit beautifully: the 4" 15/67 would of course hold a 10 and even a 4" 19 if midnight subway rides were your thing.:D

At an age now where everything hurts, so the snub J .357s are especially appreciated.

I was just able to pick up this 2 3/4 inch Ruger Speed Six. A better option than a 4 inch K frame. I have another AKJ Concealco holster on the way made specifically for it.

I’ve carried a 4” SB 65 IWB comfortably enough. My 3” 65 is a tiny bit easier, but not much. Not to me, anyway.

I’m more bothered by a gun’s width than by the barrel length. For example, a 5” 1911 is better to me than a little Glock 26/27 because it’s not as wide.

My agency issued a 4 inch Model 66-2 in 1981 or 1982 and we carried them until we went to the three inch Model 13 about 1985. We carried the 66 in a Bianchi pancake holster. It was really no more or less difficult to carry and conceal than the Model 66-1 in 2.5 inch than they replaced. All three revolvers were better and easier to carry than the Beretta 92F that replaced the Model 13. The Beretta was an OK gun for uniform carry, buy my agency was plain clothes.

Only thing about barranti IWB.. no spur shield. Hammer could dig into you. ( I think). The Thomas perfectionist doesn’t. 5 inch at 1 o’clock is comfy.

It’s funny that you mention this. While my Summer Classics from Barranti don’t have a shield, some of his do. For a time I had an SC for a 4-inch K-frame and it had such a shield. I’d not asked for it when ordering.

That said, no hammer-dig here so far for me.
