I would like to hear specifically from LEOs on this forum.

These concealed weapons badges have been around for a long time. I see them at gun shows everywhere. I can see the value that they may have in helping to identify the good guy at a scene in the first few moments before it all gets sorted out.

But in 30 years of shooting and CCW, I have never owned one.

What does law enforcement think when they encounter a lawfull citizen with one?

Short answer. Phony Badges are a Dumb idea and shouldn't be worn by anyone over the age of 5 Maybe!!!

I THOUGHT we had discussed this before....but I have done a few searches here and could not find a relavent thread. Nonetheless, it seems that answer is as I thought...bad idea!

My buddy'who has and swears by the cwp, asked me,no,TOLD ME,that I should go get that badge NOW! My answer was that if I did this it would take all the fun and exitment out of carrying it illeagally. He looked at me funny, then agreed.

I can't think of any pros. The cons? Ummmm, lets see. I beleive the cop would either freak out, laugh at you, or both. Oh, and the wannabe dork factor would be very, very high. The state issues a permit to present, not a friken cracker jack badge.

Mister Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this Mighty sound.

"Here I come to save the day"

That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way.
Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Mouse will join the fight.
On the sea or on the land,
He gets the situation well in hand.

If you ever shoot anyone (legally), just put your gun away and wait for the cops to get there and nonchalantly either talk to them or don't. There's no need to stand around waving a badge in your special badge carrier. Even less reason to wear it around your neck on a chain or on your belt.

Plenty of cops don't even carry a badge because they don't want the holdup man to find it on them when they get robbed at the ATM. When they get pulled over for vehicular homicide and want the cop to let them go, they just pull their ID card out from way in the back of their wallet and show the officer who pulled them over. Likewise when the new BMW's are in and they want their 50% police discount, or when they have to drop it on the registrar at college so their kid can get free tuition.

Also not a good idea to carry a wallet and another "badge wallet" in the other back pocket. It screams "I'm the police" to anyone with a little bit of insight behind you in line at the cash register or teller window.

If you ever shoot anyone ILLEGALLY....well...run away, run away.

Thanks for the responses.

On to other stuff now - before this get unbearably silly.

Yeah, Pete, time to move on.

He's thrown the line and lure in the water three times now and no bites.

Must not be a good day for trolling.

Your post reflects poorly on you. Hardly the proper reply by a responsible gun owner.

What would you do if you hit a pedestrian crossing the street? Lemme guess...

TROLL ALERT!!!

OK, LEO here.
Any goofy CCW badge will only set you up for a potential problem. Aside from that, it identifies you as a real tool to the cops.

I'd think the guy was either a hopeless doofus, or a child molester.
