Confession Time

I know I don't usually hang out here in SA land but since a conversation in a local shop yesterday, I felt its only right to come clean. I was talking to a guy about S&W collecting and how they don't make em anymore and the merits of the classic revolvers of the past. He then asked,"OK, so let me see what you're carrying right now."

Well, I was carrying this.

And he says, "If revolvers are so great, why aren't you carrying one?"

Now don't get me wrong, I shoot revolvers pretty good. I am also not very fond of most semi-autos and question the reliability of most. But... 3rd gen S&W pistols are in a class by themselves and, frankly, are the only SA I trust my life to. And, I shoot them just a little better than most revolvers. (with the exception of K targets but they make for a difficult CCW gun)...

So...9 times out of 10, in the summer, its a 3913 on my hip and in the winter its one of the 45s.

There, now I can have breakfast with a clear conscience.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I love revolvers for shooting, collecting (ok, so I've got a very small accumulation...hard to call it a collection) and even carrying in the woods. But for CCW I'm taking a pistol with me when I can. I don't feel "under" armed when I've got one of my J frames with me, but I like having my M&P40 a whole lot more.

Not all gun shop guys are created equal. I used to work part time at a gunshop for three years and currently work 4-5 hours on Saturdays at a pawn shop to support my gun habit. I have worked with some real winners let me tell you.

Selling anything is an art. But selling guns to an experienced buyer is a little more difficult. When a customer walks in the door, you don't know how well they know guns. So I made it a point never to run my mouth. Most guys trying to sell guns talked themselves right out of a sale when they should have just shut up.

Thankfully this isn't a one gun fits all society. I know several people that primarily carry revolvers. Carry what you feel comfortable with and to heck with the gunshop ninja dude. It's your life not his. And a bad guy isn't going double over laughing when you pull out a revolver to defend yourself.

I carry a j frame to back up an M&P pistol.
