CONFLICTED: NEED YOUR HELP!

So, I wasn't really looking for this, but stopped in to my local "Big Box" store and, in the case was a new 629 with a 2.5" barrel. The price was around $900, perhaps a bit less. Came home to think about it. Wondering if I should go back for it. Short tubed .44mags are not easy to come by, so...….. please weigh in. Do I grab it or pass? This isn't an economics question

Are you talking the PC model? If so, great gun. I actually carry mine quite a bit. Shoots real good also. I might not be the right one to ask though as I am a 44 freak. Really a sucker for the short tubes.

I'm actually not sure whether it was a PC or not. I really don't surf the new gun case...….but this one really caught my eye because of the barrel length. Love those short tube .44!

Get it! I am looking at making a move on a 629 3". Planning on it living off the Skeeter load in 44 Special.

I shot 6 rounds out of my 3 inch 629 Thursday. They are pretty brutal to me!! I also went through a full box of reloads with 6.1 grains of Trail Boss that were pretty easy on me, and much more fun! You can have it both ways with that little shooter!

I'd kind of lean towards buying it. [You already know that you are on the wrong forum for not buying it.] The only question is price, and I am not competent in that area.

I have a 629-4 PC double Magnaported 3" which is easier on my right hand than a 4" 29-2.

As someone who is not critically affected by cost, I would lean towards acquisition, except for the fact that I pretty much already have one.

If you're referring to the PC version mentioned then that's a pretty fair price. It's certainly not a "steal" though. That's the same price offered by Grab a Gun after allowing for the shipping. So, a good price if you were shopping around for one anyway but not really cheap enough to say "wow, go for it" if you're just looking because it seams like a great deal.

Curious as to why you would tell the OP to pass if it's a new gun without any explanation. I see stuff like this all the time on forums and have to wonder why. If there's a reason than please explain. If it's just personal preference than that should be said as well. I like old guns (my deer rifle is 119 years old) but that doesn't mean anything new is no good.

I've never seen a 629 with a 2" barrel UNLESS it was one of an older group made some years back. Man, the look of that thing was awesome. Are you sure you're not speaking about the 3" 629?

A .44 magnum with a barrel that short is not going to be much fun to shoot, even with .44 specials I'm thinking. Not sure what the gun would be for unless you're out in the forest and need protection against grizzlies. Otherwise there are better target guns, better self-protection guns, and better home defense guns. I'd pass if it were me. In fact, I did recently on a similar gun.
Old gun forum joke: why do they call them 44s? Because that's how many bullets are left in the first box of ammo the owner bought when he brought the gun to the gun store for consignment.

3.5inch is a low as I would want to go on a N-frame, and 4inch in .44 mag. But that is just me. If you like it and spending the money will not hurt you, then go for it. I expect you can get your money back down the line with no problem.

About 3 months ago a LGS had a one day blow out sale on inventory that had been in there a long time . One of the guns was a PC 629 like we’re talking about . NIB for $649.99 and for whatever reason it didn’t sell even at that price . I looked at it a good while but settled on a HK 9mm Expert .

False alarm! Went over to take another look and it was actually a 2.75" Mod.69. My eyes saw what they wanted to see the day prior I guess.

The 69 is also a great gun. Just not at that price.

At that price it's a couple hundred bucks too high. Not that it's a bad gun but definitely on the high side.

Think about what you need it for. "Rare" is rarely a justification for spending alot of money unless you intend to make money from reselling it.
