Hello. I have been looking very hard at purchasing a S&W 625-3 .45ACP revolver. Any suggestions or comments on this revolver? If I get one, it will NOT be the Jerry Miculek version.

Well, I have been surprised at how accurate my 3" is. It's a pretty compact N-frame, too. The .45 ACP works wonderfully well out of the revolver, and really comes into its own with handloading.

I've found that moon clips are a bit of a hassle. Some loads require them for headspacing (depends on the amount of crimp applied) and others do not. Obviously, they are required for extraction. I use .45 AR sometimes, but the 'clipped ACPs load in a twinkle and the ACP brass sure is easy to find for cheap/free.

Pretty much everyone who has shot my 3" has expressed that he wants one.

Don't do it! You'll have to change your screen name, and that will be one less 625 for me.

Seriously, I really like the 4 of them that I have.

I have no experience with the 3" version but it should be just fine.

My two 625's are a 4" JM Special (625-8) and a 5" 625-6. I REALLY like both of them. In fact, I plan to hit the range again tomorrow and one or both of them will be my "range machines".

They are two of my most used revolvers.

I've got a 4" Model of 1989. I'm just getting started on load development. The two best loads thus far run under 2" at 25 yards. One is a 250-grain bullet at 850 fps, and depending on my work schedule, I may try to shoot a deer with it later this year. It shoots rings around everything else I own except for a beater Model 35 that thinks it's a rifle.

Clips are a nuisance, but being able to shoot one load in two guns simplifies life a bit. Do a search and you'll see how to make a demooning tool for under a dollar.

I have a model 1989 4 inch and a 625 MG both in .45 ACP. It getting to the point that they are becoming my favoriate pistol for range plinking 185 Gr cast LFP with 3.4 grs of Bullseye and with gold dots my Home defense gun.

The 625 MG gun gets the most use.

I have 2 model 625s of 1989...one with a 3 inch barrel and one with a 5 inch. I like em both with the 3 inch bein 'accurate' and the 5 inch being scary it's so accurate!! And, I always can find my brass to reload when I'm done, compared to my 1911.

I've got a 625-2, 5", Model of 1988. A very accurate revolver and a joy to shoot. If I were to ever carry a revolver in an official capacity again, it would be this gun.

My Mod 25 in 45acp is one of the most accurate revolvers I own. It is not for sale.

I have the airlite 325 PD and it is a great gun, accurate and light enough for CCW. After a set of Pachmyr decelerator grips the recoil is even manageable. Everyone who sees it and shoots it want one of these too. I have a "demooner" tool that make dealing with moon clips so much easier. See the 325PD thread for more details or send me a message.

Do it.

I had one and loved it. Recoil with 230 gr. fmj was about the same as with 158 gr. 38 spec. in my 686. The gun was very, very accurate. I didn't like the moon clips at first then, came to really appreciate them. I recommend you buy it.

You will not regret getting a 625 in 45ACP. I suspect our economy will drastically worsen, but I am prepared to eat dog food before I give up my 625-4!

I am not sure without looking in SCSW which variation the 625-3 is, however, my preference is the stainless Mountain Gun .45 ACP 4 inch they did up a few years ago.
