Consolidating Ammo

You are not alone, a slew of people do this. Depending upon your age and/or activity level, I suppose I could listen to an argument in favor of it.

To me it is a well beyond ludicrous idea. I enjoy my guns and cannot fathom the idea of kicking things to the curb based on their chambering.

I also cannot understand why a caliber weighs down an owner. If you don't shoot it much you could stick 4 boxes of ammo on a back shelf and they don't take up much space. And we've seen during this current panic that guys with some odd calibers can STILL find ammo, when 9mm shooters cannot find them.

I think I'm probably at 25 or so. Would have to count.

I can't seem to get much below a half dozen calibers, although the fact that I reload and get 32 S&W L, 32 H&R, and 327 FM by changing brass and adjusting dies, likewise 38 Spl and 357, I still need to feed my recent lust for 9mm and my old liking for various rifle calibers. Consolidating? I don't think it will ever catch on! ;)

If you don't reload it makes more sense to curtail your logistics a fair bit.
Well, if you do reload it makes sense too: put a 45ACP shellplate on your progressive press and you are good for 45ACP, 30-06, and .308 just to start with. I don't mind having several calibers but I do enjoy having a somewhat limited array of projectiles I have to stock. I've disposed of my .455 Webley, 38S&W, and other oddballs just so I don't have to scrounge for bullets or cast my own. Perhaps there will be time when I retire but for now I've got some buckets of .452 lead to get loaded and downrange!
I guess if you can't work out how many calibers you reload until you look at your bench, it can't hurt to trim one or two.

That was just handgun, keeping 556 12ga 22lr. Don't reload. To balance it out hold on to 45, 3 handgun 3 rifle & shotgun. Likely to phase out 380 and 40s&w.

I reload, but several years ago decided to limit the caliber that I reload for to a minimum. I reload .38 ACP, .38 Super, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .45 ACP and .45 Colt for myself. I have added .32 Magnum for my Granddaughter as that is what she owns and likes, so Grandpa feeds her habit. Any other odd calibers I had were sold off.

Makes sense to have something small-primer and something large-primer.

The irony is you can't determine which ones to consolidate down too until you already have a bunch!

Once you have them it's no big deal to at least keep the reloading gear. If you don't need the money you might as well keep the guns. They will just be worth more later.

Out of...
.22
.380
9mm Luger
9mm Mak
.38/.357
.41 magnum
.45 ACP

.....the only cartridge in that list I don't really care for is the 9mm Luger. But I keep them due to popularity. Probably not a good time to dispose of double-stack 9mm guns since they are on the"hit list". The Makarov isn't an issue since I make brass out of 9mm Luger brass.

I'm one who will be attracted to a particular gun BECAUSE of the caliber/ammo. Bought my first .357Herrett because I found a barrel with dies before I had a frame. Got the .32-20 and 327Fed Mag because I liked the ammo. 45COLT... can't live without it. .38Super...another fav. Haven't shot many of them in several years; but when I do shoot'em, I REALLY enjoy them. Once I run out of ammo and components, I'll just stop shooting them.... Just WON'T BUY at FAKE inlated prices. I can wait.

DON'T BUY.............

J.
