conspiracy

So we can see the wide variety of life improving products available for sale as we futiley cycle through channels trying to avoid commercials for catheters, walkers, scooters, back braces, miracle cane and of course insurance companies.

This is the S&W Forum -- we deal in fine firearms. For poor tv programming, please check with the network. There are some problems not even a gun owner can solve.

Since the FCC now allows more advertising time than ever it is just inevitable. Plus may be a public service for those with very short attention spans only having to absorb about 8 minutes of the feature. Then again reading the number of times beer comes up here maybe we should be happy for the breaks.

so why do all of the tv channels go to commercial break at the same time?
I don't know. You'd have to ask my wife about that. I take out the garbage and surf the net. She watches TV and takes care of the garden. Sounds fair to me.

Kill your television.

Seriously.

Do it.

Your IQ will go up... Your blood pressure will go down... And you will think for yourself even more.

The television LIES, the media LIES, and they want your to believe and buy **** you don't need.

Kill your television.

Seriously.

Do it now.

Luckily there are a few channels I watch that are actually commercial free.

The one thing I am sick and tired of is all of these darn political ads.

After careful and tireless analysis, the best answer I can come up with is "Monkey see. Monkey do".:rolleyes::D

The only advantage I can see at my age is the number of commercials is a plus when nature calls.
Seriously I am spending less and less time watching television as it continues to go downhill.
I leave football on Sunday afternoon but do other things during the game. The friggin "play challenge review" process has basically ruined the game.

Answer they try to keep you on their channel if there is no better place to go you stay and watch their product.

Now with that said I just found a channel that is going overboard with the commercial nonsense. I was looking around and found Hogan’s Heroes on and as there was nothing better decided to watch as I enjoyed the show way back when.

The bozos are now scheduling a 1/2 show as 40 minutes. It goes like this the show starts, runs 2 to 3 minutes and then a commercial break of 8 minutes. Then finely back to the show a few more 2 minuet commercial breaks and then they go to another 8 minuet commercial time, then you get to enjoy the last couple minutes of the show.

As this nonsense goes 10 minutes into a new time slot it messes up further viewing and with the overwhelming amount of commercials the show is just not worth watching.

Nothing Live!

We have a DVR and we watch nothing live. All shows are pre-recorded and we fast forward through the commercials. A two-hour show is usually reduced to 90 minutes. Particularly annoying are those four-minute blocks of commercials that occur every 15 minutes or so. We also have ROKU and Netflix.

When the great white fathers in Washington outlaw fast-forwarding, create the Fast-Forward Police and tuck it into Homeland security, we'll stop watching television.

So you can't flip through the channels to find something better to watch.:)

Yep, they started doing this several years ago. They also passed a law to not increase the volume of the commercials. That worked for about a month,, now back to blasting the darn commercials.

I tried contacting the FCC, but received no reply.

What does it matter? We have a mute button so you don't have to listen.

Never payed attention to commercials. That time is used for bathroom breaks, snaks, online surfing, texting friends....

For the most part, I do my best to ignore I also keep a few recent magazines close by and will pick them up and read-reread an interesting article.

Talking about commercials there is one channel that IMNSHO is way overboard in what I term obnoxious. It is the Smithsonian channel. It has WAY TOO MANY outfits/ people demanding/begging for support. It also has a plethora of animal abuse commercials begging money. Folks do your research and find out where that money goes and who gets it. Most of those obnoxious commercials (3-4 minuet) are the extra long types.

I use closed captioning a lot. Helps understanding the ?mumbling? that many actors/actresses/sports announcers/news idiots etc.use nowdays. So often I also use mute to avoid the canned laughter or other background noise.
No closed captioning appears with the advertising, well so far?, so guess the advertiser wishes to avoid paying for the closed captioning!
Guess they want to avoid my business?
Maybe that is why I do nothing for 4 hours? :)

I can remember back before cable that the Networks had to go to the FCC to get approval to increase commercial break time to 30 seconds.

Course I remember the day that Custer was killed too..:(.
