Is any one familiar with Consumer Cellular wireless phone company? Their rates are very low and I was considering changing to them.

I use trac phone I get 1500 min, 1500 text and 1.5 g of data, good for a year, if I need more min I can buy 500 min for 10 bucks, 1000 texts for 5 bucks and 10 bucks for another g of data, you can get good deals on trac phone at QVC.

Tracfone has an unlimited plan for less than 30 bucks a month. I recently purchased the Tracfone LG Rebel 4 on Amazon for $49. It does everything I need it to do. I didn't go with the unlimited plan, but for $16 a month I get 500 minutes, 500 texts, and .5GB data. Everything I don't use gets rolled over forever.
I bought one for my wife too, so for $32 a month we both have more than we will ever use. Now if I could just convince her that we need to drop the land line, i could save a ton of money.

I used Consumer for a while.
They use ATT and T Mobile.
What I didn't like about them was the Base Plans had no minutes, Texts or Data.
When you crank in actual usage, they aren't as cheap as plans mentioned already in the thread.
I now use INFINITY Mobile from COMCAST.
They provide us COMCAST users 'FREE' Verizon Cell Service but charge for Data.
So I keep Data turned off.
I get unlimited Talk-Text on the Best Network for FREE!

I keep my land line, just in case of a power outage and the cell towers go out. Since the land line is on batteries, it should be good.
IMHO, every LEO and retired LEO should maintain a land line. YMMV.

To me, it's a phone. I seldom use it for internet or large data files, etc., so I may not notice CC's shortcomings that others have mentioned.

I had CC for a year, after which I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. They use T-Mobile and ATT and coverage is horrible here. Had to go to Target and get the Sim card changed from TM to ATT hoping to get better coverage. Still bad. With internet I was paying $47.97 a month. Switched to Verizon, got internet and great coverage for $72.12. Worth every penny. Even had coverage up Elk hunting and backpacking high lakes. I would never recommend CC to anyone.

I am on with my Grandsons plan, I just pay him a flat monthly fee. I use mine very little. Have never had a problem, nor has he. He uses his. I know it has been at least 6-7 years.

Agree. 50% of the time, no coverage, Emergency calls only. This sucks when your 73 and need to call for refills or try and make an appointment with your doctor.

Before you commit to a Cell Company, check the coverage maps.
And ask local phone users what They use.
Teenagers, especially Girls can provide accurate and pertinent info!

We've used it for several years. Reliable and reasonably priced.
My wife and daughter use whatever the Walmart pay per month is. Various amounts of data, etc. available for various prices. Beats the contract carriers to death and no contracts! Consumer Cellular seemed a bit high to me when I checked into them.
Is this a cordless phone? You may have batteries in the handheld, but no power at the base station, but maybe I am not understanding

Walmart "friends and family" uses T mobil which is great around here for $27 a month inc taxes for unlimited text/talk and some on line stuff I never use up. I've got a trac phone (trac phone owns t mobil) also on the old 3 for 1 minutes plan for $20 every 3 months. Home phone is VOIP for $14 so 3 phones on separate plans for total of $48 and I never get a call.

Best advice no matter which provider you look at...
Some of those coverage maps look like spray paint through a sieve. If you can't get full coverage for where you do most of your traveling then move on.

No. Corded phone, with line cord to the phone jack. House was built with phone jacks in each room, plus the garage and I use them.

Only time I leave my cell on at night, is if I want to use it as an alarm clock. One time I set the alarm on my bed side alarm clock to 10:00. I woke up at noon with it still going off. For some reason the cell always wakes me up. I have it charging to where I have to get out of bed to shut it off, otherwise I'd just shut it off and go back to sleep.
I sleep really good!

Huh? For the most part it is the other way around. Cell service may go down due to overload when there is a large power outrage. Your landline is plugged or wired into an electrical power source in some way.

In 4+ years of using Consumer Cellular, I have never had a problem with coverage (being "out of service area"). It used to happen once in a while with Sprint.

Have been on Consumer Cellular for a few years now and am very happy. Two lines with unlimited data and talk time for about $55 a month.
Had a phone problem last month (got washed in the pocket of some jeans) and customer service was great! Got a replacement at a reasonable cost very quickly.
I recommend them.
