You can use .30-30 brass to form .303 Savage cases and I do, using just the .303 Savage FL sizing dies and trimming to length. However, the .303 Savage has a slightly larger base diameter than the .30-30. So I make a couple of turns of 1/4" wide masking tape around the base of the .30-30 cases prior to the first firing of the loaded cartridge. That acts as a centralizer to make the case expansion above the base uniform. The tape is not needed for subsequent reloadings. I have never had any problem with using such "fire-formed" .30-30 cases. .303 Savage cases can also be formed from .220 Swift brass, but it's a lot more work. I tried it, and went back to using .30-30 brass.
