Coonan .357 Automatic (1911)?

This is a new one. I have several .357 revolvers and I like the .357 cartridge. Looks like the pistol will fire 38 spl as well.

I watched a video on the home page. It was so corny I thought the site might be a joke.

Anyway, I am interested in the pistol. Anyone else hear about this one?

Coonan has been around for quite a few years. IIRC they went bankrupt once and have just come back in the last couple of years.
They are are a modified 1911 chambered for the .357 Magnum. The grip frame is longer front to back to accommodate the longer cartridge. Some people don't care for the feel of it.
I got to shoot one once and rather liked it, but not enough to buy one. Them things are expensive.

They are $1500+ and not as reliable as other cals. made for auto's. Picky on ammo.

I sold a Classic last year. Coonan are great people to deal with and the pistols are made in USA. They are available for less than $1,500.

I've heard positive things regarding reliability with either cartridge.

What I don't like is the grip. Plus, they belong in the category heavy metal with a weight of 42 oz empty and 48 oz loaded according to their website.

i have the new one and i love it. it came with 2 springs one for 38 i believe is a 10 pounder 357 is a 20# it take the same recoil springs as 5" 1911. i have every one from 8 to 20 at the price of the gun i don't want to damage the frame so i pick my springs for the reloads i make. i have no problems with feeding untill i got down to the lightest reloads. wich seems like to much hammer spring to overcome. i love my coonan and glad i spent the money it is very well made and shoots more accuret then i ever will.

I have owned two. Both shot very well and had no trouble with quality factory ammo. They are very loud at an indoor range. Will draw a crowd. Got talked into selling both and the $$$ went into something else I was more interested in at the time. Do not see them very often. People that own them seem too hang on to them.
