I was talking to a guy yesterday. He's a moderator on a large gun forum you would all recognize. I brought up the subject of copyrighted material. He told me that it had become a pretty large problem on their site. So much so they've retained a lawyer on a permanent basis to handle law suites. His claim was this is a well organized operation that can track plagiarized material and they can be a real PIA. Just a friendly reminder.

Is it still okay to post a link to view material on its original site? I can't see how that's violating a copyright.

This stuff is getting out of hand. YouTube sometimes censors a video, then later restores it or the music.

It's hard to know what's legal.

I'm certainly no authority. I am not trying to be a know it all. I was yakking with the guy I mentioned face to face during a local gun transaction. He seemed like a pretty knowledgeable fella. Maybe I shouldn't have even brought the subject up, except there seems to be a lot of new members here.

T-Star: To try to answer your question. I would not try to give out unsubstantiated info. The man I talked to mentioned "cut and paste" as a big offender. I do Google "image searches" occasionally and noticed most pics are labeled copyrighted material. I have linked to u tube stuff here on this site myself, but now I don't know. I hate to see money wasted to chase down lawsuits by these leeches.

IIRC, the owner here said NO photos unless they are yours and you own the rights to them.

The best way to comply is no quotes, no links, and no photos. Descriptions and searchable key words will suffice if someone wants to follow up on a subject.

I have noticed that a lot of the avatar pictures are back. Many of them are not the individuals photos and have been found on the internet. Most pictures are copyrighted. Such as those of old rock and roll members. But I see he is gone again.

Yep..KIETH is gone. To bad, but I don't need the problems nor do I wish to create any.
