CORE 9L Trigger Help

Long time S&W revolver and Colt 1911 shooter. Wanted light and red dot so went with the M&P 9L CORE with light and an RMR. Loved the setup so much that I bought a Shield to go with it. Five hundred rounds through each now (without a single issue) and love the trigger on the Shield....hate the CORE trigger.

Trying to figure out what I need from APEX to give me a crisp break and 5 lbs or so pull? Both are for self defense but I do enjoy using at the range out to 25 yards. Sure could use some advise.......

The best kit IMO is the FSS apex kit. I have it on my FS9 and 45, it is smooth, and it has a clean crisp break under 6lb and can be less with the competition springs. It comes with the apex polymer trigger which reduces the over travel and reset.

Yes, the Apex FSS is the best gift you can give your full size M&P.

I have 3 M&Ps, a 4.25 standard model, my CCW
a Pro Series 9L and CORE 9L. All Apex equipped.

The Apex FSS is the best, excellent trigger feel & pull.
The flat face feels best to me but the other aluminum trigger
has a Glock like curve, almost straight compared to the stock trigger.

Either aluminum FSS kit will work.

The trigger return spring tune the pull weight
Silver spring is 4½#
Green spring is 5½#

And if you use the stock M&P spring it's 3½#

Being a 1911 shooter I think the flat face will suit you

Dropped my CORE of at my smith this afternoon. Gonna be a long two weeks. Thanks for the input.100-054 ... wahoo.

DO it yourself! The first one took me about 1 hr and a half.....30 of that was trying to realign the trgger/spring/slidelock, the other our to actually do the "scary" stuff.
I did my second one today, took all of 45 minutes....and again, 30 of it was getting those 3 lined up! LOL.

No adjustments, very "drop in".

The part I had to enlist a smith with, was the sights. He has a press tool......I dont. Cheaper to give him 30 bucks, and 10 minutes.
Although the 4.25 got Ameriglos. LOVE THEM!

On the CORE, the only bitch was the screw that holds the plunger assy cover. T5 is the size, they say...but left out, soft as a big *****, I had to use some weird tool that was in a Leatherman bit kit. Spent 15 minutes digging around to find something to work, 'cause the T5 torx was too small, a T6 was too big. Soft metal, and overtorque as S&W. Bad for me.

I want to buy another M&P, just to put a 3rd one in LOL.....not sure if a shield or a 9C.....dont know yet...LOL...but it's coming!

He did the right thing, not everyone can install a kit like this.

Just like not everyone can do their own brake job on a car.

If you don't feel confident or don't have the proper tools don't mess with it. I have installed three of these apex kits so far, they are user friendly, and every time it just gets easier plus it gets you to know your gun better.
I got the apex armorer block, the MGW sight tool, and I can do this in aprox 30 min. Also I take advantage and polish the trigger bar and the SB too.

Yep, I have all those tools as well. Having 3 M&P's (so far) they pay for themselves. Also the correct punches.

Wish I had the courage to tackle it but without the proper tools, and attitude (read confidence), probably better to defer to a professional. I've buggered up my fair share of projects. Admire those of you that have the skills to tackle this.....

Thank you sir. I can fly helicopters but damn glad there are professionasl that know how to fix em. I can shoot the **** out of my pistols but damn glad there are..........

Got my CORE back today. APEX kit ... WOW. Color me impressed. Very windy and cold but had to put a few rounds through it. Four pounds, crisp and tremendous reset. Gun is now a winner....time for me to step up to the plate.

Twenty yards, offhand, 20 kt crosswind and did I say COLD?

glad to hear what trigger did you got on it ? I just bought a 5" Pro already have two FSS kits on other guns wanting to do FSS kit plus competition springs this time according to apex I should get a 2lb trigger

I got the APEX 100-054 flat faced trigger kit. Had my smith fit and polish. Asked for 4 lbs and it is 4 lbs on the dot. VERY clean break and short reset. Only 10 rounds through it today but have been dry firing a lot and love it. Can't believe the difference. Friend had him do his at 2 lbs so I know it can be done. His is virtually breath on it light.

I've had "trigger jobs" done on my 1911's and 686's but nothing came back this improved. Can't tell ya how impressed I am with APEX and the install I got....

Couple hundred rounds through the CORE this afternoon. VERY pleased with accuracy. Question though...seems like there is quite a bit of side to side movement of the trigger. Is this normal?

Define "quite a bit" for us. Are we talking about 1/64" or 1/8" or 1/4" of movement?

Not sure how to measure. Maybe eighth to quarter inch at bottom of trigger? None at top. What caused me to look at it, maybe twice in two hundred rounds, seemed to "catch" on something during initial pull. Haven't been able to duplicate it during dry firing.

There is some movement on my FSS Flat trigger.

But my stock trigger on my Sig P320 has the same type of movement.
