Never heard of such nonsense. Sounds to like some kind of Un American propaganda. Cornbread is made with egg, cornmeal and milk. :p:D Larry

Heh heh, I substitute egg with apple sauce-and milk with coffee creamer and water. You cant tell the difference-at least nobody I bake for-has yet to discover my methods (till now):o

To my way of thinkin' Shouldazagged really nailed it. Cornbread is NOT dessert. It is bread to side with the main part of the meal. Beans and rice, Stew, Smothered steak, hell I even have it sometimes with bacon and eggs and fries for breakfast. I'd no sooner have cornbread for dessert than I'd have German chocolate cake for the main course.

I used my mother's scratch recipe for years and bake it in the same black iron skillet that she and used and that my dad's mother had used before that. One visit to relatives many years ago my SIL served her corn bread with beans and rice and it tasted exactly line my mother's recipe. She use Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. I was blown away. Just add milk and you're all set.

If you want to dress it up a bit and have Mexican cornbread you can put in some green chilies and creamed corn and that will make you reach across the table and slap you're mother right in the face.

Carl, I do believe that those ladies from your gym are messin' wit' yas! ;)

Heh heh, I ever get your way? ill make you a batch and you'll change your mind.:D

I do make Mex cornbread, and usually add some Mrs.Dash--Mex-like spices-and a few spoonfuls of Salsa Verde. I might add, I like this so much that I make more of this for myself.

On the ladies, ive actually had as many as four-block the doors of the gym when im leaving. I go to leave after I agree to make what they want. I wish I had a photo to post with:Noemi, Melinda and Caitlyn in it.:D

You're a pushover Ringo.:D

I have to be. Their husbands are built like this guy:

Well I'm very self assured and know what's what. But on the other hand I'm very flexible and always enjoy trying new stuff. :D

Just wondering, do y'all just talk about cooking? :D

Listen, if you need any help with the ladies in the gym I can be there in about 5 hours. Sounds like you might be out numbered. And I'd hate to see you taken advantage of.

do they just want northern corn bread?
it's not much different from southern but you add 3/4 cup sugar.
i love it that way, especially toasted.

I didnt know the difference, but now educated. :D Usually when they are in a cornbread mood, its just regular cornbread-or Mexican style. When I make this batch? it'll be my first attempt.

:D Ill be glad to make y'all a batch of that-and my blueberry muffins. I add stuff others dont.

We talk about other stuff too, but it always ends with food. We are getting a CHUYs here-at least six of them want me to go with them when it opens-with Sabrina's blessings.

Bring weapons with you or you may not get to leave. I got lucky this morning and left while they were still in the ladies section of the gym. :-))

I won't be bringin' any weapons. I'm more inclined to surrender. ;)

you know, buying a mix is kinda dumb. you save neither time nor money.
corn bread is a quick bread.
you can make a quick bread from scratch in 2 minutes.
anything you use baking powder or baking soda in is like that.
by the way, if you wanna use buttermilk, don't buy a whole quart.
add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk.
when it curdles it's ready to use.
no good for drinking but in a recipe you can't tell the difference.

When I make Johnny cakes I add corn bread mix to pancake batter. Then cook them like pancakes.

Ringo, step away from the keyboard, go make some cornbread. If you scurry around and don't feel good, pitch it and make another.

I'd add a little sugar if you are taking it to the girls, bring honey. Don't tell the work out queens there is sugar in it.

Bring soft butter.

ah ah ah!

A while back my grab and roll shopping style resulted in some really bad tortillas.
I took a close look at the package, they were gluten free.
They were also taste free.
Feel bad for folks who have to eat that ****!

Sounds like contempt prior to investigation mister Pilgrim-This is no flavorless, dry Yankee corn bread neighbor-it's my favorite, and I am grateful it also meets my dietary requirements as well.

a long time ago: :D

However-surrendering does have its benefits. Both Noemi and Melinda have made me: Cornbread infused with cottage cheese and brocolli-two things I detest. Cant taste them in the cornbread though-which was actually delicious. The other was a sort of thick soft-baked cookie--which was equally good, but fattening.

Sometimes I do that from scratch-but it really depends on how much time I have in the morning? It takes me--making a double thick batch about 90 minutes from mixing to being cooked.
