Correct stocks for 1951 pre 27.

I bought this 6-1/2" Pre 27, S830xx, circa 1951, over eight years ago and only now realized that the stocks are incorrect. They're unnumbered cokes, and nice ones at that.

To paraphrase Supica, "Hey, I didn't do it; I found the gun like that!" It wasn't until recently that I've had a correct 29 with cokes to examine and compare with this pre 27.

Now I'm in need of a correct (and nice) set of stocks for this beauty. Any suggestions?

It could have come with diamond magnas or non - relieved target stocks. Have you lettered it to know what is correct?
What kind of stocks are you looking for?

A new member recently posted about an opposite problem. He had a first year Model 57 with Non relieved targets and was looking for nice cokes.

You should hook up. I'll try and find it for you.

PS - if that was my pre 27, I'd be tickled to have the cokes!

Thanks guys. I'll poke around for a set of early 50's period target stocks and magnas. Mmm, gonna be tough to part with the cokes just now, perhaps someday.

My 3 1/2" Pre 27 came with non-relieved walnut targets and was shipped in Sept. 1953.

The knives:

Top one is a Tom Krein Walkabout and the other is a Krein TK-11. I like knives, too.

This one has a 6.5 barrel as well. It is SN S1232XX. It shipped September 1954, and it has magna grips that number match to the gun.

A letter on yours would be the only way to know if it was ordered with target grips, otherwise magnas would have been the standard offering.

If the ".357" was shipped in 1951, it would have been fitted with Magna stocks made of walnut. Target stocks did not appear for the N-frame until late in 1952.

No letter yet. I now have two 1950's era SW's that need letters; this pre-27 and M29 #184076.

sth just hooked me up with a set of correct magna walnut stocks, numbered 7935xx, less than 3700 before my .357 s/n 830xx. Now my .357 is wearing correct stocks for the period. I'll post a pic later this week.
