Could use some help I.D.ing a gun pls

All I know is that it is a S&W , the story told is that my great grandfather and his brothers forcibly stole it off a active duty police officer during a regular stop. I would like to id the gun and have a price that it is currently worth.

Without a description and the serial number, it's impossible to say anything.

I'm sure any statutes of limitations are long expired and odds are that the perps have been dead for many years. I don't think you have any legal issues to worry about. Besides, it's just a 'story'. It might not even be true or could have been 'enhanced' by being repeated over the years. What year did this event take place?

everyone who was involved in this is long gone and btw this story is passed down from some good ol Alabama rednecks so who knows the truth. Not trying to be rude in anyway by I really expected some legit feedback from this sight, I will still love I hear a mature response that helps me with my problem. Thank you.

It's a .38 hand ejector or .38 HE. To give you a better name for it we need to know the SN. or a least the first few numbers. On a side note, I have a badge and a night stick my great aunt took off a policeman when she was told to leave a cafe for being to loud and rowdy. The Sheriff made her give back the gun the next day. All this happened before WW2 so I don't think I'm going to worry about giving them back no time soon.

I used to get all mine that way.
Now, it's getting real hard to find a cop toting a Reg Mag or a Triple Lock, and they never have the box with 'em.

Your old gun is a "38 Military & Police".
We simply say 38 M&P.
It is some variety of the Model 1905, but the serial number would help nail down which variety.

Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like it says 32 Long CTG on the
barrel. I'll guess it to be a 1903 HE model but others on here will
know for sure. Maybe the cop decided it would be better just to hand
it over rather than fight over a 32 and then go buy a bigger gun.

1. You asked for info on a gun but you provided almost no help by way of caliber, serial, etc. and then get upset when a detailed description isn't immediately forthcoming and:

Yes it is, would you happen to know the yr it was made or any additional info?

Haha probably so, like I said I have no idea how we truly got it..I think you are correct on the gun description but I will put up the serial number ASAP to get further confirmation. Thanks allot man
