Couldn't take one more night in an empty house...

Pace, good on ya man. The predecessor opened the door for this one to come into your heart. I know the loneliness of losing quite a few great friends over the years. While he won't occupy the special place you and your little girl shared, there is plenty of room for him to fill part of the void in his own way. I had 43 years of yellow labs, he will either be a digger or a chewer, generally not both, Thank Heavens. Fine looking pup, enjoy.

I believe this was the best thing to do. We have done it three times over the years You'll never forget your loss but as you said, you have all new adventures to be concerned with. Max is a cool little dude!! :)

We lost Sophie the whippet nearly three years ago... My wife refused to consider a new pup because losing them hurts so much. I finally wore her down and four months later we got Rita the whippet. On looking at her papers, we saw that she was born the day after Sophie died.

Now I don't know or care about the "theology" of this... but we're both convinced that some of Sophie's spirit is in Rita.

We've had several whippets before and they all have different personalities, quirks and habits. Sophie was no exception and did some things that were really "unique".

Without going into detail, time after time Rita mimics some "Sophie things" that raises the hair on my neck and are hard to explain.

For people who love dogs and have a special bond with them... they'll have to draw their own conclusions.

As for Max... he's beautiful and I know that he won't be a replacement but rather an addition to your lives.

When my best little friend ever, Mac, a Parson Jack Russell Terrier, started to fail, my wife found a yellow lab pup. She brought him home so we could all get acquainted, and Mac let me know he thought the new kid was all right. That was four years ago, and the lab, Rodeo, quickly became my constant companion around our place. Labs are a great breed, and your new boy, Max, will make you a good friend. You two will be just fine.

Max is a really handsome little guy that will grow into your furry soulmate.
To me, losing a faithful animal is sometimes worse than losing a loved human.
Ya done good, pace40! :)

What a cutie! And so the memories begin :)

Just know this dog, like all dogs, is going to look at you like you are God. It has been said that dogs are the only things on Earth that love you more than you love yourself. Another link in the unbreakable chain of the Man & Dog condition has just been born. It a tremendous blessing to be sure.

Congrats!!! I know Max will never replace your lost little girl, but I know he will do everything he can to win your heart over!:)

Best to you both!:D

Lost dogs can never be replaced but the blow can be lessened.
FWIW, it's one of the reasons we always have two or three dogs at any given time. A house without paws is a sad place. Congrats on your new buddy!

I've said this before on another thread, but it needs saying again: a puppy is two years' worth of anti-depressant medication in a little dog suit.

Max certainly looks like one who will fill the prescription, if not the hole in your heart just yet.

Blessings on both of you!

Awesome!

We are a dog and two cat family. The dog is almost 12, and is obviously getting on in years. He is actually my step-dog, but a great pup!

My two cats are 10 and 11, been with me so long they outlasted my first marriage, have moved with me 4 times throughout the years. One is getting close to his time, as he has heart disease (failure). I will be devastated when his time comes. There will likely be other generations of cats to come, none will be like my first little pals, but each will bring their unique joy to our lives, but help us to remember the best of the generation before.

Max will provide you with unconditional love and devotion. I remember all the dogs I lost over the years and I have had a good number of them.

Barney and Squirt say hey!
