Couple of SD9 VE trigger questions

I'm looking for a new 9mm and this pistol is on my very short list. I have had a chance to dry fire it and didn't think the trigger was that bad. Couple of quick questions - how does the reset compare with say a Glock 19 - shorter, longer? I had a chance to fire a Kahr CW9 which has a long and heavy trigger pull somewhat similar to this gun, but the reset was pretty long.

Also, I want to use this as a CCW so not sure I will mess with the trigger but wondering how the trigger compares with a G19 with the Apex AET installed? Not that I think the Glock has a particularly great trigger, but I've fired one enough to make it a decent reference point.

If you are that obsessed about "reset" that you want it to be like the G19 WITH the APEX, I seriously recommend you get the M&P Pro instead of the SD. If you buy an SD and the full kit, you will have paid for the Pro.
I always recommend you shoot before you buy even if you have to drive some distance to do it.

Not obsessed with the reset, just curious since it was something I didn't check when dry firing. I actually think the Glock trigger/reset is a bit light and quick for a defensive pistol. On the other hand, I thought the Kahr reset was a bit too long, though I liked the longer trigger pull. And having never had the chance to handle one with the Apex kit installed (trigger only, not interested in the lighter spring) I was trying to get a reference as to what it would feel like compared to something I know.

As for M&P, we don't have anything on the CA DOJ roster in the same size as the SD9 except for the Shield, but I don't want an external safety.

I agree, it's always better to fire before you buy and I've been renting/borrowing to narrow down my list but the Smith has been harder to find in that regard.

I like the SD9 VE trigger for CCW. My own opinion is that while Glocks are very good pistols, they aren't necessarily the best choice for the average joe looking for a CCW pistol. Of course, everyone wants to think "tactical" and that starts to get a life of it's own. I ride motorcycles too and see the same thing - everyone wants the bike that they see racing on Sunday even though those bikes are optimized for an environment and riding skill that doesn't necessarily transfer over well to the daily commute or weekend ride.

Have no idea about what is on the CA DOJ roster, but the M&P Pro 4.25" barrel with night sights is about the same size as the SD9. The Shield is smaller. As to the "safety" on the Shield, I just leave mine in the down position and never know it is there. I suspect that was the intent with putting it on the Shield: use it or not as you wish. The Shield trigger is more like your reference than is the SD.

To check reset on a dryfiring, hold the trigger back, operate the slide about 1/2" and release, then slowly let the trigger out to reset.

Thanks. I thought the Pro was a bit bigger so I will check next time I'm in the shop. Appreciate the thought on the Shield as well. I guess I was thinking the gun was designed to be used with the safety as far as carrying is concerned.

I have both mentioned guns, less the Apex kit in my Glock. Just like you, I'm in CA, so my SD9VE is the CA version.

The reset on the Glock is shorter than the SD9VE. Not by much.
