Crane play

My newly acquired M19 has a very slight crane play while the cylinder is open. It locks up tight and there is no play when the cylinder is locked. The retaining screw is not loose and can't figure out why the play is there.

Can someone help ?

I did have a crane that acted the way you described. I took out all the screws for the side plate and tried different screws until one locked it in tight.

I did have a crane that acted the way you described. I took out all the screws for the side plate and tried moving different screws until one locked it in tight.

Tried to one from my model 15 and the play is still there. Called S&W today and they'll send me different length screws which hopefully will resolve the problem.

Got the screw from s&w and unfortunately it did not resolve my problem....
