I doubt I'm the only one who's seen gun prices skyrocketing. Just a few days ago I could have gotten an M&P45 subcompact or 4" compact for under $400. Unfortunately nobody local was open for background checks so I figured I'd have to wait. Things seem to be moderating here so I got back online and lo and behold those same pistols are now close to or well over $500. I guess it's all a matter of supply and demand but still that's quite a jump. Hope things drop back after everything settles down again. I wasn't sure if this was the right place for my post but it is about M&P's after all.

I think you're right about used guns flowing into the market after things have gotten back to normal (what ever that is). From what I've seen in interviews with many gun store owners, there are a lot of first time buyers out there. Many purchased their first firearm out of panic that there could be civil unrest. With a lot of police depts. saying they will no longer respond to calls where there is no immediate danger, it is something to think about. Most previous panics occurred when new gun laws were being considered and active gun owners hurried to buy what they thought would soon become unavailable. Most of them were happy to keep their new guns even when the panic ended. I think a lot of the first time buyers will sell their new gun as soon as they consider their situation to be safe. Then they can go back to telling everyone how much they hate guns and nobody should have them. Of course that may not help me since I'm looking to buy another .45 and most new buyers have 9mm's and .380's.

An article in today's newspaper (Richmond Times Dispatch) stated that March 2020 was an all time record since the State police began background checks......some 80,428 by March 31, 2020.

There are very few LGS even left around this area....and I have only looked on-line just for sake of looking (thinking there might be some nice oldy S&W's being traded for fantastic plastic) but...alas...even the used guns are down to basically nothing (a beatup Model 10 with chicny rubbers for $479!!!).

So....new guns, used guns, rifles, pistols, shotguns....cleaned out, ammo gone too.

I agree...….gonna be a bunch of stuff hit the private sales soon, or the internet and the prices will most likely be depressed.

I'm still lookin for a local that is in desperate need and will trade me even up a Registered Magnum for 4 rolls of TP (I could go as high as 6 rolls):D

If we can return to a somewhat reasonable facsimile of our prior normal you might find a lot of 'used' pieces back on the market because the first timers decided they really didn't need it after all.
TBD as we go forward to our NEW 'normal' in this country.

I think gun prices will come down faster then ammo prices. Don't expect to see the ammo prices stabilize for almost a year......hope I'm wrong.

I think this fall, there will be a glut of "extra" guns folks don't
need because they are out of work. They will keep the zombie
guns but the stuff they don't need will come out.

Ammunition not so much.

Depends on what caliber ammo. 9mm, .380, .38 sp., all out of stock or exorbitant price-gouging presently. .45ACP HP's, however, are the same price as usual (when a shipment comes in). I just bought another 300 rounds for 65 cents apiece. You gotta hop on it, though....

I have a theory, and I have that theory based on someone else's action. Gun shops are getting ready to have their orders filled since they anticipate panic buying in October and November. One of my local gunshops hinted he has a $100k order of ammo right now for the panic buying. I anticipate almost every gun shop in the US has an extensive order for ammo right now. It will remain to be seen just how much people will spend.

I've found decent deals /prices on all ammo except 9mm. I bought a case of Geco 158 gr lead nose that is poly coated for $233 shipped. $11.65 a box of 50. Good range ammo. I'm not buying anything else I just peruse online prices every few days. The time to get ammo online is pushed to 2 to 3 weeks online though.
As far as firearms there are plenty available on armslist, this forum and GB. The guns types and calibers I
I would buy (.40 and 45ACP) are not too over priced. The polymer frames like the shield 9 are nowhere in sight though.
I agree when this is over there will be cheap /inexpensive guns for sale at rock bottom prices.

They can have their over priced guns and ammo both . I got all of both I need . This is why I cast my own bullets and load all my ammo for everything I normally shoot . I got enough to fight a medium sized war if need be , if not then my boys will already have a lifetime supply of loading components when I'm gone . Been hoarding powder, primers , lead and cases since I started loading in the 60's . If they want to catch me with my britches down it will have to be in the out house .

I was all ready to buy a 38 snubby before this all hit. I have now decided to wait till all those who bought in a panic that have never used one will realize that they can't hit the inside of a barn with it or it hurts their hand. Then there should be some available at a good price. Quick

A buddy of mine at an LGS said he saw roughly 10%-20% increases in new S&W prices... This was before C-19...

Gun manufacturers are going to have a bad year as far as being able to keep up with demand. Some are already saying their suppliers are not shipping the things they need to build guns. Most manufacturers don't make 100% of their parts in house. The epidemic has slowed down production enough that you won't see the same number of guns being shipped to dealers. That's the reason prices are going up. Fewer guns will be in the pipeline for the remainder of the year. If prices aren't already higher wait a few months because this is going to affect every manufacturer to some degree this year. There will be people wanting to buy guns and there just won't be enough to go around.

I'm pretty sure nobody is going to sell a gun they had to stand in line to buy or wait 2 weeks for a proceed from NICS. The black death is going to with us for awhile. It won't be over by the 4th of July. This year has already been canceled.

China just started it's second round of lock down.

Funny thing: ammo prices are up, most gun prices or up, but magazines aren't up a penny.

First time I've seen that.

The recent gun buyers are still learning what magazines are for. You never have too many magazines, and I will buy more, but I, and probably most here, have enough magazines too. You would think that we have been reading this forum for decades.
