My wife passed away last October. We had Visa cards in both names. I cancelled them & started fresh. I had been having some problems with Citi cards. We pay them off each month but somehow they charged me for a service charge. Small amount but it was something I didn't owe. 22 percent is way more than I want to pay. Any of you members having problems with credit cards?

Yes, I did, but I got rid of it. Some credit card companies routinely let your payment sit several days before crediting your account so they can add late charges, and charge interest for 2 months. Dump them.

Get the Cabella's visa. You earn points to redeem for free gear. We always pay it in full each month and never pay interest or service fees. I just got $170 worth of ammo for free using the points we earned.

I've got a card through my local bank, and another through Capital One. I've been very happy with both companies. Pay my bills online, which means I know the payment has been applied.

Neither has jacked my interest rate (yet), no insane fees. I might be looking into a Cabela's card after I buy a house, til then, no new accounts.

Call them ask the charges to be removed.
If they give you a hard time, tell them to close the account and also tell them it had better show as a voluntary closure on your credit report.

I lost my wife four years ago and am still floundering. I have a Cabella's card and something else. Always pay the full amount each month, but with other cards I have been charged a late fee, which after a phone call, was removed. Then I voluntarily cancelled the card.

If you qualify for USAA, get their card. They do not play those silly games.

Their motto is "We know what it means to serve"

+1 on the Cabela's Club Visa.

I use it for everything, and pay it off every month. I keep racking up the Cabela's points too! I've already redeemed over $150.00, and right now have about $60.00 available.

I haven't had any BS with them up to this point.

Mine is with my credit union. No silly games and a very decent rate. We do use it very little and pay it off every month when we do use it.
I may have to look into the Cabela's card though.

"Any of you members having problems with credit cards?"

No.

I fired them all in 1995 and cut them into little pieces.
Use ONE single debit card. Works great for my needs.

I haven't had a credit card in 6-8 yrs.(cause I wasnt good at repaying but great at charging,so I went to a credit counclier and turned 'em in and paid them (c/c)off $400/mo.).Last Nov. I applied for a car loan at my Credit Union. They approved it but said they'd found an open acct with Radio Shack that was deliquient, thats not possible cause the counslers made a payment every mo for me.
I called the radio shack hq and got some fella that wouldnt give me any info except it was behind $145.I said send me a copy, he wouldnot because the address on the acct wasnt where i live now or had lived for the last 30 yrs.! A call the next day got me a supervisor and we went thru the same routine, got her supervisior on line she listened and said apperantly the c/c payment wasnt sent the same time we do our books so your balance was paied off but the processing fee was not and it accrued interest. She wiped out the balance and closed the acct.
The address?? turns out the address was my sons in Fla.!! I live in N.Y. He said he doesnt have a r/S card but had bought something at one in Fl. for a birthday present.

Have had a Discover Card forever, at least thirty years, and have never had a problem with them. Pay it off monthly.

If something ever happens and you are even a day late in a payment-youe Discover card automatically defults to a 29.99% interest. All those notices you get and don't read and throw away tell you all this.
Credit cards are almost a necessity in these days of electronic payment, but beware, they will f*ck you over faster than you can bat an eye.
Lee I'm sorry I used that word, even in disguise, but in all honesty it was the only one I sould think of that conveys exactly how bad they will stick it to you and how fast and mercisessly they will do it.

Just remember that when you cancel a credit card it may negatively affect your credit rating. It lowers your available credit and credit bureaus use that is determining your credit score. Doesn't make sense to me, but that is the way it supposedly works!

Not quite. Your credit rating will be better if you have at least one credit card that you pay off consistently. (If you never use credit, you have no rating.) But canceling a credit card works in your favor if you have at least one other card that you use even occasionally.
