What's a good safe site for a credit score check?

Capital One has a free service, CreditWise. You don't need an account with them to use it. They notified me immediately when some mutt tried to open a Cabels CC account in my name.

I have no idea what my credit score is. Would I benefit in any way by having this information?

Many people do not realize how important your credit is. Car insurance, home owners, others view your credit and make a judgement. It is not unusual for there to be mistakes on one's credit report and you have to notify the bureau and contest it. If you don't, that blemish may stay there for some time. Experian, Equifax and Trans Union are the 3 big bureaus and each will provide you with a copy of your credit report each year. They will want you to buy a service that gives you your credit score. Personally I would not opt for that. For years I have had my credit "frozen" with all 3 bureaus. If I need to "un-freeze it" when applying for credit it is typically easily done. Best advice...know what is on your credit report with all 3 bureaus.

If you bank with a major bank or credit union you may check with their online site to see if they offer this as a service.
I know Navy Federal does for it's members and as mentioned above there are others.
If not then any of the three major credit bureaus will get you a copy of your report for free once a year. But I am unsure if they give you a credit score with it.

My wife and I had some sort of scammer problem some years ago; I don't remember the details now. She had our credit score/account/ or whatever it is called frozen. I just asked and it is still frozen. Apparently, there is no disadvantage whatsoever unless you want to apply for a loan.
Apply for a loan. The lender will tell you what your score is.

When I check my credit union acct. in the morning there is always an up to date credit score thing on there. Nice service to have for people getting ready to get a car or whatever on credit.
This day and age, it is wise to keep up with
your credit score and monitor your bank accounts

I think this is true of most credit cards based on just now checking my Chase and BOA cards online in their respective apps.

Try your usual bank or credit union. Probably a few clicks of the keyboard away for a good customer.
I've been using Credit Karma for years and really like them. They even offer some other stuff that could be useful. I've used them for multiple things here and there.

My credit cards, banks, and brokerage accounts all provide my credit scores free on their websites any time and as often as I want. What you can also request from the credit reporting agencies is called a fraud alert. If you open an alert, it prevents anyone from opening up a new credit account using your personal information, such as a credit card, buying a car on credit, etc. You can stop or start a fraud alert anytime you want. I believe it needs to be renewed every 18 months or thereabouts. Also, anyone can order a free credit score report from each of the three credit agencies every year. Just google Free Credit Report to find out how it is done. Some years ago, I also used Credit Karma, but not at present. It is OK.

I have a followup set up so that I retrieve the free report from one of the credit bureaus on a revolving basis every 4 months. Each account at the credit bureaus is also "frozen".
Hey, I just noticed you moved north!
Have had mine frozen for over a year after somebody opened up 2 fraudulent accounts in my name. I closed both accounts and the CC companies ate the loss. Last time I checked my credit score was when I bought my wife a car, it was 857.
Yep, we found our slice of heaven. Should have done it sooner.
