I am next in line at our local dealer for a TRR8 or M&P R8. It will primarily be a home defense gun.

Do any of you have the crimson trace on your N frames? If so I would love to see your pics and get your take on having crimson trace on a large frame revolver.

Crimson Trace LG-314 are on my 327PC. I find them to be a good size and very comfortable.

If you get a laser grip for the models you mentioned be sure that accessories mounted from the lower rail will not block the path of the laser. I seem to recall reading an article reviewing the TRR8 where they said that was the case. If so, you might want to consider a laser or laser/light combo which mounts from the lower rail.

If you don't mind a new guy boasting, I did go with a TRR8 but after a lot of thought I would forgo the laser, and get a red dot instead. The added weight of an Aimpoint H1 on a TRR8 loaded with .38 SP still weighs less than a steel frame six or seven shooter fully loaded.

Actually, one day at the gun store it was my wife that while handling a plastic gun with CT laser grips said "I would like some of these".

So we both got a set for our S&W 44 Mag Mountain Guns.

The short answer is they work great. One night I was able to help a rancher by killing 4 raiding feed bag racoons, at night, 2 of them running away at a pretty fair distance.

They are well worth the money, IMHO.

Darn sexy right there!

I think you can go either way laser vs. red dot. It really depends on how you want to use the revolver. As awesome as a sweet red dot looks, I think a laser is a more effective tool on a defensive revolver.
Just my two cents.

I agree. I have a T1 on a PS90 and its a nice optic but for inside the house I wouldnt want to have to worry about finding the dot in the
glass. With the laser, squeeze the grip (as if you wouldnt be doing that already with the adreneline pumping), put the visable dot on the bad guy, squeeze trigger, wash rinse repeat until click in lieu of bang, call lawyer and then authorities. :D

I agree. The TRR8 is not my first choice for home defense. Perhaps after I get a little range time on it I can re-purpose it. Were I to do so, a laser grip or a light, with or without a laser, would be how I'd set it up. Since the OP clearly states home defense as his intent, his choice of a laser grip is a good one.
