Cruise ships

I was on 5 cruises in the 60s! The food was great but we didn't get to see much. I don't know where we went but the main sea chest injection temp. was 30 degs F and we were taking 40 deg rolls at 350ft (below the surface)!

Yeah, I guess all the windows ice up at 350" v.

We will take our 9th cruise in Oct. No better value for a vacation IMO. The stops at all the Caribbean Islands are great for future vacations that are week long resort finders. We prefer Royal Caribbean and then Princess.
These big boxes can cruise at 22 knots. Not exactly crawling. The tech on them is pretty amazing like side thruster pods for docking into tight spaces port to stern. The majority of ships we have been on have ranged from 80K tons to 144K tons. Much bigger than most/any Navy ship. Length is around 1100' give or take with a beam if around 150' They do pack us in there when it comes to rooms but the space available when out of your room (which is 16-18 hours a day) is very spacious. You don't feel crowded.
Welike the shows after dinner every night. Lots to do on board and in ports.

We have been on 3 cruises. Two Disney to the Bahamas with our son. IMHO it's the best money that can be spent on vacation. Essentially all you can eat the whole time you are there. Treated like a Prince and Princess(even the adults) Tons of tech, tons of fun, and memories to last a lifetime.

When my son turned 16 we took him on his second cruise. All of his friends were getting cars and drivers licenses. He has been wheel chair bound since he was 9. So we wanted something special for him. We spent as much on the cruise as we would have if we bought a car. But we had WAY more fun than you ever could in a car....well at least with your kid with you that is. :D

Three med cruises and one westpac cruise. My daughter got married on one of the ships out of new orleans water tasted like **** and a year later got divorced. My sailing days are over. I get to stay home and watch the three dogs and two cats. Frank

My wife and I have been on 10 cruises and love them. Been on 1 Alaska cruise. Like Mike said about the dinners and then a show. Meeting new people when you eat is interesting. The rest of the time is relaxing and eating. Larry

There with post #20. I'm in the cruise capital of the world and won't go. Been on many while berthed and keep seeing one thing in common... the sorry state of the lifeboat davits.

If that's an indicator of shipboard maintenance, I'll just wave bye-bye from the quay.

We have been on 2 Disney cruises to the Bahamas and one through some of the Caribbean Islands we enjoyed them all. Going on another Disney Bahamas cruise next yr. with the grandkids who weren't around for the first two.

Only been on one cruise, the food was great the entertainment was so so. In all fairness it was so long ago I think our captain was some guy named Noah. We did meet a couple from Houston that stayed plastered fo 7 days, and could dance and slur in 3 languages!

I've been on two, an Alaskan cruise, (too much time on the boat, not enough time on land seeing things). A small boat (127 passenger) cruise on the Rhine river through Germany. It was wonderful, my next cruise will also be a river cruise, and Avalon does it right.

I really want to do the Rhine cruse but think it won't happen in my lifetime.

My girlfriend is on that ship. She is taking her 25 year old
grand daughter who just graduated from college (5/1/15).
This is her graduation present from grandma. My girlfriend
has over 30 cruises under her belt.

I can't afford to go on cruises like she can. I rather spend my
money on other tangible things. Besides, I spent a year on
a converted aircraft carrier in 1968 while I was in the Navy.
Cruised all over the far east, crossed the equator and the
International Date line. She still doesn't consider that
"Cruising". What a snob!

She took me on an Alaskan cruise about 4 years ago. Sailed
out of Seattle through the inland passage. I have an auto-
immune disorder and the meds I take suppress my immune
system. I caught a cold two days into the trip. It was cold and
miserable, and this was in May. My greatest fear is getting
the Norovirus and some of the other nasty viruses you get
in crowed conditions. So, I'm staying home. A couple of times
she came home sick as a dog with some kind of cold or flu.
Man, talk about Typhoid Mary! She slept in the spare bedroom.
:D

I was on one of the USO Rhine River cruise tours from Marburg to Mainz. it was only about a 4 hour trip but it was good. I think the one the long river tours would be really good. I think there is one that goes from Amsterdam to Vienna (or maybe Geneva) that would be a good one to take. get there a few days early and enjoy Amsterdam as well.

I've been on one cruise and its a good value vacation in general. My problem with them is: I don't gamble much, I don't drink much, and I don't eat much. I eat pretty healthy and eat small amounts and I don't need the temptation of a bunch of free delicious food and deserts and as big as the ships are, I still feel a little "closed in".

I never been on a cruise, but I did hear about that one time this old boy from up on the Range came down to Hinckley to play some slots. He spent five bucks on a raffle and won a cruise with celebrity supermodel Elle Mcpherson.

The cruise ship hit a reef and sunk and this fella found himself in a lifeboat, just him and celebrity supermodel Elle Mcpherson. If I told you what happened after that, I would get kicked off this forum, but you woon't believe what happened.

Went on two cruises. One was the USS Mitchell form Oakland to Okinawa. Very unpleasant three weeks. It was November and the ships rolling and pitching reminded me of the old Victory at Sea films. 200 GI's and about 1500 barfing Marines. I was surprised the Marines barfed so much as they should have been used to it. Second was on the USS Breckenridge. Okinawa to Oakland. Guy next to me made no effort to wash the whole trip. Packed in like sardines. Felt sorry for the Marines who were being harassed with rifle inspections and such. Once we got to Oakland they had about a platoon of us GI's on deck ready to leave. They had us drop our duffle bags and we had to unload garbage from the ship. This was about two hours before I became a civilian.

Never had any interest in going on cruise.
