CS-1 & CS-3

Greetings,

I have both a 3" S&W 686 CS-1 and a CS-3 that are in excellent condition but are safe queens. I had a Springield Armory M1A and would love to have another in either the full size version with synthetic stock or a SOCOM model. I'm looking to either sell the CS's or put them up for trade. Would a straight across trade be a good deal for myself and the new owner.

Any imput would be appeciated.

I think both of your guns would be close, or maybe slightly higher in value for an M1A SOCOM, but don't let the other guy know...

I suggest a true auction on one of the commercial boards to maximize your income , then just buy your rifle.

The M1A SOCOM's are neither common, nor cheap. So, uless you know of someone with an M1A willing to make this trade, you'll do best to auction your guns with a reasonable reserve and then start looking for the SOCOM. BTW, good luck with that search, I've seen just one in the past 2 years at a local dealer and it sold in less than a week.

If you put both up on an auction site like Gunbroker, I don't see why you could not get at least $1000 for each CS.

I have the CS-1 in 3" and 4"-and I shoot em both! Love the narrow front sight, does well for my getting old eyes. I see them being offered at silly high prices on some auction sites, but I don't know whay they are actually bringing. I would pay north of $650 if I did not already have em.
I did have a SOCOM M1A, it had the 16" barrel, I sold it, it was just too noisy. I believe that 16" is just too short for a .308, although I kept a Remington 7600 Police with the 16" barrel that would shoot rings around the SOCOM any day-has to do with the free floating barrel-and I only paid $450 for it.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the Springfield M1A, I have the standard model and it is a nice rifle, but I fond the SOCOM just too noisy and too "tactikool" for me.
