A member of the forum here was gracious enough to part with this beautiful CS1 in great shape. Rather than the Customs Service light glass-bead finish, this one came with a more typical 686-style brushed finish.
Not being the type to leave well-enough alone, it was decided to return this to a reasonable facsimile of its original finish.
A call to McMaster-Carr for a bag of the “secret sauce” blasting media and a trip through the cabinet at 45psi yielded the following results:
I need to blast the cylinder release and nut, they will go in with the ‘salvage’ CS1 later in the week.
Here’s a comparison to the factory finish on a 625:
