I am thinking about getting 1 of these but know nothing about them so i thought i would ask on the forum. Does anyone have experience with this model? Are they reliable, and what is an average price on a good used 1? All responses whether positive or negative will be appreciated!!!

Thanks Vic.

I have a stainless one. They were made with both stainless and blued slides on silver and black anodized aluminum receivers. I bought mine in November, 1995 and, sad to say, haven't shot it yet. I think I bought it because I already had a CS-9 and CS-45 and wanted to have the whole set!

The CS-40 is built on the same frame as the CS-45, as opposed to the smaller CS-9's Model 39XX frame size.

S&W's single column magazine, 3rd Generation pistols have a great reputation for reliability in all calibers they have made. I can't imagine that the CS-40 would be any different than the others.

Hello,
I own a CS40DAO and I love it.
The Chiefs are great little pistols. Dont be afraid to invest in one of these.
Here is a pic of mine

You Can't go wrong with any of the CS collection.Own the CS9 and have shot the 40 and the 45.They are great guns

I have a CS40 and CS45. Both are great pistols. Reliable, easily concealable, controllable and comfortable to shoot, feed and digest everything I've ever put through them. Recommend highly.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Unfortunately i will have to wait until my money situation improves to buy one.:(

i have a cs40 and love its size reliabilty. the only bad part is that my wife enjoys it more. looks like i will have to hunt down a cs9 for her.

Finally got out to the range and fired my recently acquired one. It is a freaking nail driver! I was able to shoot it more accurately than some full size guns. Shooting one handed also feels really natural. I was able to shoot 1.5in groupings at 25 yards. I owned the Sigma previously and was severely disappointed with it. It was my first S&W. I heard so many good things about the CS series so I said "Hey why not I'll give it a try."...A decision I'll never regret.
