I have been a member of this forum for a while now but have not really posted much if at all. I actually find out a lot of info from just searching all the posts. I have always been a fan of the J-frames and the older semi-autos. To date I have a Model 10 with a 6" bbl. that was my Dad's and a 39-2 that I purchased 10-12 yrs. ago (one of my favorite SA's).
In the last few years I have finally started to quench the j-frame thirst with a Model 38 and 36, and just recently got a really good buy on a Model 31-1. Picked up a 629-1 with a 6" bbl. a year or so ago.
So here is my question(s) if anyone can help me out.
I purchased a Chief's Special 9mm today for $350 from someone I work with. I took it to the range at lunch, shot it and really, really like it. It is the one with the brushed stainless look.
1. I assume S&W doesn't make these anymore, and can anyone tell me the time frame that they did?
2. Do you think the $350 price is good?
3. I only got one magazine with it and it looks like it might be a challenge to get another one. Anyone know where some might be in stock?
As soon as I get some pics I will post them on this thread (If I can figure out how to do it)
Thanks everyone

1) Produced from 1999 to about 2006.

2) You didn't get a good deal, you got a great deal.

3) Someone just sold two on the forum. The CS9 and pre-rail 3913TSW share the same magazine. Different base plates, but same magazines. Because they only fit those two guns, neither of which is still in production, they are fairly rare. They pop up from time to time, but are not cheap when they do. Smith still has them listed on their web site.

They are a very nice concealed carry firearm, congratulations on picking it up.

I found this website climags.com, which has CS9 magazines. I've never done business with them and the magazines are used. Worth looking at, but as I said, I've never done business with them and can't comment on the company or the products.

I bought extra mags from Midway about four months ago for $34 each. Unfortunately they are out of them now.

And you got a great deal. I paid $450 with two mags and case a little over a year ago.

$350 is a helluva price. I was tempted to buy a second cs9 today with some surface rust. Blued finish, asking $449.00

So Gary, is the pre-rail 3913TSW mag a flat base or one with a finger extension? Someone was asking on another thread about flat base mags for CS9 pistols, and I was wondering if there was such a thing.

You being my go-to mag guy, what do you think?:D

Yea, one of our welders told me about it and I was skeptical. But when the person that I bought it from told me what it was and showed me the pic I knew it would be hard to go wrong with any S&W semi-auto for $350. My FIL is looking for a good compact 9mm, but When I took this to the range I really liked it so I will probably not tell him about it and keep it. Is that being a bad SIL. ;)

The pre rail 3913TSW has a flat base plate, but not the same flat base plate that is a bit oddly shaped.

Either the curved base plate or the regular 3913 flat base plate will fit, but the shape of the grip makes them look awkward.

So the flat baseplates don't match the contours of the bottom of the CS9 grip, then? That's too bad. Maybe with some creative shaping of the baseplate with Dremel? Or is it just a no-go appearance-wise no matter what?

I can tell that, thanks to you guys, I am starting to feel a bit of the CS flu coming on.....;)

No. Either the flat or curved base plates will fit a CS9 just fine. The problem, such as it is, is that neither of those will look right in a TSW because of the unique shape of the TSW grip.

The CS9 has a grip profile that looks more or less like a regular 3913.

Here are two pictures of my 3913TSW with the correct magazine inserted. Note that the grips are not factory original which is why there is a slight mismatch.

Summitgunbroker.com has some CS9 magazines for $35. I ordered a couple, along with a 6906. I guess I don't have enough 3rd gens. Mark just got back from vacation so there may be a backlog if you place an order.
As far as baseplates go, I've tried both flat and extended. The extensions give me just enough room to get all my fingers on the grip.
