First off, Rest in Peace Sergeant Major:

Im posting this here because during this news piece, they read a bit of his combat and bravery awards. I cant say how impressive some were-which included clusters for the Bronze Star, Silver Star and the Purple Heart. With what little I know--to me in the least--he SHOULD also have something higher-like the DSC or Medal of Honor.

This was from 2012, but I hadn't seen it. Thanks.

If anyone hasn't seen, "We Were Soldiers", do. You'll learn a bit about Basil Plumley. I also have the book by Lt. Gen. Moore.

It was interesting to see the movie and look at photos in the book and compare the actors to the real men they portrayed. Mel Gibson played Moore, and did a good job.

Did Moore get any medals for that nasty Ia Drang battle? I know Lt. Joe Marm, fighting in a nearby battle, received the Medal of Honor. I believe that Sgt. Savage received the DSC. It's a wonder that he survived. Both heroic helicopter pilots eventually received the Medal of Honor.

I almost put the date, but thought it was shown on youtube when video ran.

Ultimate honor

To be buried at Fort Benning.
As a footnote-my first battalion commander had coordinated the artillery support that saved the unit. This was 1976-and the majority of the soldiers I worked with had been in Vietnam-as a new lieutenant I just took it for granted-they were very intolerant of arrogance, stupidity, etc. That commanders name is Dudley Tademy-he became the DIVARTY commander 101st Air Assault-I don't believe I ever heard him raise his voice-
I am honored that we became friends-
