Well it looks like according to the guy in the White House we can now look forward to getting Cuban cigars again and the Cubans will get a new shipment of Chevy's!. The sad part of this is that due to my recent medical concerns I can no longer enjoy a good cigar! :rolleyes:
But it looks like we will now resume diplomatic and trade relations with Cuba.
At least we got "one" of our back.
 
Other than cigars, anything good in Cuba? Food? Drink? I'm not being sarcastic. Just curious and want to know if it'll be a good destination for the future vacation.
 
At one time being so close to us it definitely was a place to go! ;)
But that was when Batista and the mob ruled. Things got different under Castro and Kennedy.
 
My wife's late mother was from Cuba, best black beans and rice I ever had, not to forget the chicken and rice as well. And to finish it off a Cuban Coffee. Looking forward to getting my Havanas from Cuba instead of Canada.
 
Back in the 1950s Cuba was a tropical paradise and very popular vacation spot. Then came Castro and 50 odd years later its nothing but another third world dung heap.
I don't see what we have to gain here. Must be a lot of money involved somewhere. :confused:
 
Sure is,,,,,they need the Chevys and we need the cigars.
I could never understand why this trade embargo went on so long,didn't prove anything.
What use to irritate me though was the knocks I got on my head from crawling under my desk during the Cuban missile crisis! :rolleyes:

Two, at least; Alan Gross is the public face, but we also sprung an apparently valuable asset that's been behind bars.

Of course, they're getting a few of theirs back, too...
 
Cuba needs to do something to survive. Russia literally propped them up for decades by buying their sugar at way above market prices. When Russia dumped them, their new angel was Hugo Chavez and Venezuela. Venezuela is about to collapse economically too as oil prices drop.

Chalk this deal up to both sides wanting to make points. Obama gets an "in your face" to the Cuban conservatives in Florida who dislike him and Cuba gets to try to become a functional economy rather than an international basket case. Cuba is the poster child for the abject failure of communism.
 
I never look at the action but to where the action leads us. Is this action for the good of our country?
 
bummer wants another friendly dictator geographically close so they can chat.
 
Is this good for us? We've survived this long without them! I can see the Foreign aide cash starting to flow as we speak. For the money people here it will be great! Open up the immigration doors because it will mean free travel.
Is Fidel alive? If he is by now he's a veg. :rolleyes:

If we have relations with China, Russia and Vietnam you know sooner or later this would happen.

As with so many things it should be happening not in secret or by executive disorder but through an open debate and vote by our legislature who should be held accountable for representing the people of this great nation.
 
Well you know a certain persons track record why should this change now? Besides this was also blessed by the pope!;)
My question is why all of a sudden,why now? More smoke and mirrors? :confused:
Bright side maybe we can see some good old S&W's coming out of there?
 
Follow the shipping lanes, We spent a lot of money on the Miami and Ft.Laud ports over the years. In time Havana will take much of the commerce away from S.Florida.

Follow the money, The U.S. had no control of it before Castro. It was investors and Mafia money. Just a few miles away to your offshore account and vacation paradise.

Since Castro, They depended on Russia for money and look where that got them. Venezuela and N.Korea ain't much help either.
 
This will be a boon for US businesses. Better to have a friend off our coasts than an enemy. Normalizing trade withCuba is the fastest way to help it move to a more capitalistic society. Just look what has happened in the former Soviet Union and the current Vietnam. No need to punish Cuba anymore. They see the light.
 
As I recall, at one time the only thing keeping the Cuban economy going was Soviet/Russian purchases of sugar at artificially inflated prices. I guess now, with the Russian economy circling the bowl, somebody felt the need to step in and bail them out...

Food and drink from Cuba is fine, and was cheap. Expect that to change very soon.
It won't take an eyeblink for prices to come to tourist levels.
If you want good rum and cigars, get them soon, very soon.
 
Cuba has some wonderful people that were left behind and forgotten. Judge the government but give the common person the benefit of the doubt. There are decent folks in Cuba that have been subjected to misery. Let's give them a chance.
