Curious about my S&W Model 686

I have a S&W model 686 that I purchased new in the early 1980's. The serial number is AJV0956.
Recently I have been looking on the net to see what the value of this revolver might be, but have been unable to find one just like it. I have always thought it was a 5" barrel, but I may be measuring wrong: it is 5 1/8" from the front of the frame to the end of the barrel, and 5 7/8" from the front of the cylinder to the ,end of the barrel.
Unfortunately, I didn't keep the original box or paperwork, but I am fairly sure I am the first owner (after the gunshot I bought it from).
I am a newbie to the forum, so please forgive if I'm in the wrong place or my question shows my true intellect.

6" barrel 686. Open the yoke and check the frame for a dash number or M stamp. (Example 686-1 M) or some such
I have a 6" 686 "no dash" with M stamp for recall modified.
Your gun is not rare.

This revolver is stamped 686 with no dash - also no M as I never sent it in for the recall. I have fired a lot of rounds through it with no problems (knock wood).
I didn't think it was something rare, just couldn't find a comp because I was looking for a 5" barrel.

Resale value might be in the range of $600-$700 depending on regional variations.

Not uncommon for a 6-inch gun.

Does it have a White Outline rear sight and a front with a Red Ramp?

There is plenty of interest in clean examples of this early gun, even though yours isn't likely rare. That said, the $600-$700 mentioned above is a good estimate, and perhaps a little more with the box, tools and papers.
