Curious round dots?

Help! I can't figure it out. There is a gray or green dot beside eneryone's board handle in these posts. What do the color differences mean?

Green means the member is logged in.

Gray means they are either logged off, or a Forum Contributor is in "Invisible Mode".
A Contributor can be online, but you can't see them...... Spooky.
