Jut an FYI for anyone wondering about the current turnaround time from the factory for repairs.

Had to send my 649-1 back to the factory (cylinder release button snapped off at the bolt). Not something I was willing to tackle. I was happy with the turnaround time. S&W received it on 1/17/25 and I got it back on 3/7/25. The cost was $73 while not great, I could live with that.

Last time I sent anything back was in the late 1990s. And that ended in replacement of the gun.

So, I'm glad to see that my favorite J frame didn't take too long to get back.

I sent a 629 PC Hunter back. Two weeks after attaching the call tag I received a letter from them. I replied by phone on Thursday. Now I wait!
I do have confidence in the quality of work

resurrecting the dead, i sent a 686 in for repair3/28/25 got the cost and paid on 6/17/25, called today 7/29/2025 all i got is maybe in a week or two. last call was probably end of july. if i ever need another s/w repaired it will go to a gunsmith other than s/w. there is no sugar coating it, repair time is unforgivable.

🤔 On 6/30 I sent a 625 in because the forcing cone looked like a file, I told them I just bought and it was unfired. They got it on 7/2. 7/7 I got an email telling me received, holiday weekend and all, cool.

I waited until the 15th called and politely asked if it was assigned to a tech, was told not yet.

7/21 I get an email telling me FedEx will be visiting me. 7/23 Gun back in hand.

Forcing cone as slick as rat crap on a polished door knob.

i would assume they jumped on yours since it was a new and hoping you would not be very angry, the one i sent in is a 82 or 83 model, i understand they have a lot of stuff to do and since the main operation is in my home state of Tennessee now i guess not that many gunsmiths in Massachusetts at repair center. they probably think its a old gun, screw him on getting to it.not much he can do about it.

Mine was manufactured in 2003, and I told them I bought it used.
