Doing the letters is a lot like growing up---first you crawl, then you walk, and THEN----YOU RUN!! Don's a runner now!

In the beginning--------------------------way back it was, 2017---maybe early 2018.

The gun is a 6" 2nd Model Single Shot. Now what's extra special about a 6" 2nd is that 6" business----there ain't a whole lot of them around!

Here comes the letter----from Don! Now that was new news all by itself---I didn't even know he had started doing letters, but there it was.

Now Don's Momma didn't raise no dumb kids, 'cause he knew the 6" business was THE main reason for a letter (Never mind I got a letter on every single gun.). I knew he knew because he apologized for not being able to confirm the barrel length.

I sat and stared, and fussed an fumed------and wondered----what to do----what could I do? Then, out of a clear blue sky, I learned Roy'd been out of town for a good while----and I had a thought. What the hell, it couldn't hurt! I ordered another letter on the same gun----and crossed my fingers!

Here comes letter #2---it's from Roy!! It says "The records indicate that this pistol was shipped with a 6" barrel, blue finish, and checkered black hard rubber grips. This was a special order for a single unit."

The Boss Lady surmised Don was likely doing the best he could picking up the slack while Roy was gone, but he had yet to learn about researching special orders for single units. I surmised it didn't make any difference, God was in his heaven, and all's right with the world!

18 day turn around for my 1936 Registered Magnum letter. It just arrived today. It is in it's original configuration, except I'm missing the Wesson Grip Adapter. I'm sure one of those will walk through the door of the Expo show this weekend. Talk about hard to find!!

I lettered that one back in June. It shipped to Supplee-Biddle-Steltz Co. (a major hardware concern) In Philadelphia on 21 October 1954. A total of four guns in the same configuration were in the shipment.

Well I bought that gun in Philly!
I believe it came from a estate. I see the guy that sold all the guns at gun shows.

My last two pre-war S&W grip adapters came from David Carroll---one N frame, one K frame. Each inquiry was via email. Each reply was almost immediate----"A small package is in the mail to you. Call me when you receive it."

I figured I needed to call him so could tell me what this snappy service was going to cost me. Sure enough!! I figured the K frame would be a bunch more than for the N frame, but it was the same.

The K frame version was missing the short screw. That problem was solved in short order for about $2, and a brief conversation with my drill press telling it it was going to be doing lathe duty for a bit.
