A friend bought a .44 Automag with accessories. The accessories include a .357 Automag barrel and a .41 Automag barrel. He has reloading dies for the .44 and .357 Automag ammo. He is looking for .41 Automag dies. Does anyone know a company that makes custom dies to order? He has quieres out to RCBS, Lee and Lyman. Any help would be appreciated.

On The Firing Line Forums there is a moderator named 44 AMP and I know that he has some of the original Automag pistols and definitely has a knowledge base to share.

Not sure if he has your answer, but I would ask him.

I have a 330 dakota I bought from the builder. He sent the reamer he used on the barrel to RCB and had them make a die with the same reamer he used on the barrel.

Lee Precision has always offered making custom dies

A carbide 3 die set, custom made, is about $300 and takes three to four months to get done

I had them do a set of 475 Wildey Magnum dies for me quite a few years back. I've also had them do plenty of other custom production over the decades

In addition I would have them make a collet style crimp die for the cartridge as well, obviously that will be extra money but it will be well worth it and it solves a whole lot of possible bullet setback issues

When you say " He has quieres out ", I presume you were referring to emails?

Pick up the telephone and call these companies and you will have your answers within an hour

RCBS made my wildcat dies, not sure they still do that kind of work, C&H made dies for a friend that had one of my wild cats. I have never been impressed with C&H quality but my friends dies work well. If RCBS will do that's who I would go with.

The cartridge is called the .41 Action Express or .41 A.E. This can be reloaded with .41 Magnum dies. I have owned a pistol in this caliber for many years and enjoy it. .41 A.E. brass and ammunition have not been made by anyone for quite a few years and can/are very difficult to find. I use cases made by converting .41 Magnum brass on my lathe.

Basically tell him shooting the .41 isn't worth the problems and effort.

Another name is the .41JMP Auto Mag Pistol - Wikipedia Not .41 AE.

Nope.
The 41 Automag is a bottleneck cartridge formed from the 44 Automag case. It’s a very powerful high-performance cartridge!

CH4D can make custom dies.
Fred Huntington made dies originally back in the 70s. It’s possible RCBS may have information, as they held onto much from the Huntington days.
