Custom slide back plate for M&P 2.0

I just picked up a new M&P 9 2.0. I wanted to put on a custom slide back plate. It appears that the slide back plates are the same size for 1.0 and 2.0. The 1.0 fits on the 2.0. My question is: I noticed some metal on the 2.0 back plate, obviously strengthening the part. Will it be OK to put the custom back plate from my 1.0 onto the new 2.0?
