About a year ago I bought a new Model 640-1 Pro Series. At that time I noticed the barrel was slightly canted and thought about sending the gun in for repair. I procrastinated because the gun hit where I aimed and because someone had posted on this forum that canting up to 5 degrees was within S&W acceptable tolerance.
However it bugged me every time I looked down that barrel and saw the front sight leaning a little left. So in the first week of this December, I sent it back to S&W. A few days before Christmas, just as I was returning home a Fedex truck arrived with a package that I was asked to sign for. I had received no notice from S&W that the gun was being returned, nor any Fedex tracking number.
Since the gun was being returned so quickly my first thought was that the gun was found to be "within acceptable tolerance" and nothing was done to correct the problem. However upon examination I found S&W had made the canting problem go away. The gun is now perfect and worthy of some fancy wood custom stocks. I am surprised however that S&W never gave me a heads up about being there to accept the Fedex delivery.

The shipping issue does sound a little strange. They are usually pretty good about notifications ref. shipping. Perhaps the e-mail ended up in your spam folder?

Mine (442-1) has been back twice and is still canted so I guess you are correct..... some obvious "imperfections" are acceptable. Glad they got yours corrected.

I had one in the PC that they misplaced. When they found it on Friday, they fixed it Monday and shipped it to me.

I got the gun Tuesday morning and the email to notify Tuesday afternoon.

and no charge...Sweet..$200 bill...

I'm somewhat disappointed.... This past October I bought a new SW22 Victory 22 pistol and not even 1500 rounds it lost the ejector assembly... I mean gone.. not there. I called S&W & got the RMA/shipping label & sent it out on Nov. 17th. Couple days ago I contacted S&W to inquire how long it would be and I was told it was at PC and would be another 4-6 weeks before they send me a quote... A quote?

I had it not even a month...

What CS at S&W says is not necessarily what the guys in the shop will charge. CS told me I'd have to pay for the trigger play spring replacement on my trade-in 4566 as it was under warranty. Shop charged nothing.

Right hand - left hand often.
