Cutting down barrels...expense

Hi everyone, I was just kind of wondering what the total expense might be of cutting a 4" bbl model 10 to 3" bbl, and then having the entire thing reblued/refurbished at S&W?

Any guesses? Do they even do that kind of thing at the factory? Then again, I guess if I were to send something to the factory, they could simply change the barrels out rather than hacking an inch off mine?

Just a pipedream for me right now, I don't even have a M10 (yet).

From what I understand about cutting a barrel down, the main cost is not in cutting the barrel or recrowning it, but from replacing the front sight.

I'm not sure of costs or if a 3" barrel exists for the model you are seeking, but I keep seeing the same advice over and over. Get the gun with the barrel you want from the start.

Ahh...logic...I've heard of the existence of such a thing...rarely see it in action, though.

It's a lot more cost effective to find one and have it replaced. A 3" tube will more than likely be a bit of a pain to find, but if you look hard enough i'll bet you will be successful.

If you absolutely can not find one, it would probably be better to sell your gun and buy the same one with a 3" tube. The cost of cutting and refitting the sight and bbl. to the gun has just gotten too high, and I think you would be happier anyway knowing that the barrel was original to the gun. There are still plenty of 3" M65's and M13's in good condition, and let's not forget the "sexiest" model...... the 2 1/2 inch M66 and M19! I have even seen a few 3" M10's, although if you are gonna buy a 3" K, I would go for the 357 Mag.
